This first look compares three of them—the Traditionnelle Manual-Winding, Patrimony Self-Winding and Patrimony Moon Phase Retrograde Date—by their movements, dimensions, materials, edition sizes and reported launch prices.
Three watches, three different approaches
The anniversary year marked 270 years since Vacheron Constantin’s stated beginnings in Geneva in 1755. The Maison’s campaign framed that history with its motto, “do better if possible, and that is always possible.” The three references below interpret the occasion through familiar dress-watch formats, from a hand-wound small-seconds model to an automatic watch with a retrograde date and moon phase. Vacheron Constantin’s 270th-anniversary campaign provides the brand’s historical context.
Specifications and edition quantities in the table are reported by Hodinkee’s 2025 coverage. Dimensions are case diameter and thickness; the figures are useful for comparing proportions, but do not by themselves determine how a watch will fit a particular wrist.

Hodinkee also reports 3 bar (approximately 30 m) water resistance for each and silver-toned dials with applied markers. These are launch-coverage specifications, not a substitute for checking the documentation for a particular reference. Hodinkee’s 2025 comparison is the source for the table and these shared specifications.

How the designs and complications differ
Traditionnelle Manual-Winding
At 38 mm and 7.77 mm thick, the Traditionnelle is the smallest and thinnest of these three. Its manually wound calibre 4400 AS/270 displays small seconds and has a reported 65-hour reserve, the longest in this comparison. The case is offered in platinum or 18K 5N pink gold, according to Hodinkee.
Patrimony Self-Winding
The 40 mm Patrimony Self-Winding adds a date and central seconds, driven by automatic calibre 2450 Q6/270. Its reported 40-hour reserve is shorter than the Traditionnelle’s, while its larger case and automatic winding make it a distinct proposition rather than simply a bigger version of the hand-wound watch. Hodinkee reports white-gold and 5N pink-gold case options.

Patrimony Moon Phase Retrograde Date
The 42.5 mm model is the largest here and combines a moon-phase display with a retrograde date indicated by a blued hand. Automatic calibre 2460 R31L/270 has a reported 40-hour reserve. Its additional display and broader case distinguish it from the simpler Self-Winding; Hodinkee reports white-gold and 5N pink-gold cases.
Anniversary details across the collection
Hodinkee describes silver-toned dials with a Maltese-cross-inspired pattern, applied gold markers and hands, and alligator straps. On the Moon Phase Retrograde Date, the date hand is blued. These details give the three watches a family resemblance while allowing the different functions to shape each dial.

Fratello reports that the wider anniversary group received a new dial texture and “côte unique” movement finishing. It says Vacheron Constantin described perfecting the special movement decoration as taking more than 500 hours; that figure refers to the finishing process, not the time required to make an individual watch. Fratello’s writer characterized the motif on some versions outside the more complex official releases as appearing stamped. The available descriptions do not establish that all three watches’ patterns are hand-guilloché, so that technique should not be assumed across these references. Reported launch prices and availability
Prices below are historical launch reports from 2025, not current quotes. They are kept separate by market because the sources report different currencies and coverage contexts.

- Choose the Traditionnelle as the point of comparison if a smaller, thinner case, hand-winding, small seconds and longer stated reserve are the priorities. The platinum and pink-gold versions carry different reported European launch prices.
- Consider the Patrimony Self-Winding if an automatic movement, central seconds and a date are the desired combination in the middle case size of this group.
- Look to the Moon Phase Retrograde Date if the moon phase and sweeping retrograde date are the defining attractions, and a 42.5 mm case is acceptable.
Those distinctions follow the published specifications; they do not establish which watch wears best or has the most appealing dial. That remains a matter of wrist fit and personal taste.
