Announced on 26 August 2025, the Favre Leuba Chief Skeleton is the brand’s first fully skeletonized timepiece. It places an openworked automatic movement inside the cushion-shaped steel case associated with the 1970s Chief collection. The manufacturer describes the architecture and specifications below; this is a first look, not a hands-on assessment.
How the Chief design frames the openworked movement
Favre Leuba says the Chief Skeleton builds on its Chief Tourbillon, introduced earlier in 2025, and combines the collection’s cushion-shaped case with an openworked movement developed in collaboration with AMT. The brand traces the Chief case design to its 1970s collection. Its announcement of the watch as its first fully skeletonized timepiece is dated 26 August 2025 (Favre Leuba announcement).
The layout is intended to make the movement’s structure the focus rather than conceal it behind a conventional dial. Favre Leuba describes a multi-layered architecture, with the mainspring barrel exposed near 12 o’clock and the balance wheel at 6 o’clock. The brand says the bridges are horizontally brushed and the 4N rotor is skeletonized, finished with Soleillage, and engraved with the Favre Leuba monogram. It also specifies Super-LumiNova C1 X1 on the hands and hour markers. These are manufacturer descriptions, not details independently inspected on a physical watch.
Shared case and movement specifications
The official pages for the cited references list a 40 mm-wide cushion-shaped case, 11.76 mm thick, with a sapphire crystal, exhibition caseback and 100 m water resistance. The black version uses a black DLC coating over steel. Check the exact reference’s product page: the shared measurements do not mean every configuration has the same case treatment or other details.

What this first look can—and cannot—establish
The official specifications give a clear picture of the watch’s dimensions, water-resistance rating, movement family and visual variations. They do not establish how the watch wears, the movement’s measured accuracy, the practical legibility of its openworked display, or the quality of its finishing in person. Favre Leuba’s published reserve and frequency are stated figures, not results from independent timing or power-reserve tests. A value judgment also requires current, like-for-like prices and assessment of competing watches, neither of which is established here.
