What is the Royal Oak 16204BC?
The full manufacturer reference is 16204BC.OO.1240BC.01. It is the white-gold version of the Royal Oak Jumbo Extra-Thin Openworked: the case and integrated bracelet are 18-carat white gold, set against a grey openworked movement. Audemars Piguet’s official product page identifies the exact reference and its materials.
“Jumbo” is a historical model-family nickname, not a claim that the watch is exceptionally large by current standards. Audemars Piguet’s Heritage account explains that the name became associated with the original 39 mm Royal Oak and its extra-thin successors because that diameter was considered large when the model appeared in 1972. How the white-gold design is put together
The main visual contrast is between the pale, polished white-gold exterior and the movement’s darker grey bridges and plate. Monochrome described the white-metal treatment as more restrained than the precious-metal alternatives; that is an aesthetic reading rather than a technical distinction. The hands and hour markers are also white gold, with a black inner bezel framing the dial opening.

Monochrome’s November 2024 report specifies a 39 mm diameter, 8.1 mm case thickness and 50 m water resistance. It also describes sapphire crystal on the front and a sapphire caseback, plus an AP folding clasp. Those dimensions and water-resistance details are from that dated report, not a live manufacturer specification. Monochrome Watches, November 2024.
Calibre 7124: openworked, automatic, and time-only
The automatic Calibre 7124 displays hours and minutes; there is no date. Monochrome’s specification list gives the movement a 29.6 mm diameter, 2.7 mm height, 211 components and 31 jewels. It reports a 57-hour power reserve and a frequency of 4 Hz. These are published specifications, not results of independent testing for this article.

Audemars Piguet says Calibre 7124 was developed in parallel with Calibre 7121 and uses a larger barrel than its predecessor, Calibre 5122, which the brand gives as 3.05 mm thick. The 7124’s openworked construction lets the wearer see through the movement from both sides. Do not confuse this white-gold model with the 2022 anniversary-launch versions: AP specifically identifies a “50-years” rotor for those launches, while Monochrome’s 2024 description of the white-gold watch does not identify that anniversary treatment.
How Audemars Piguet finishes the openworked movement
Openworking exposes components that would ordinarily be hidden, so the finishing is part of the display rather than merely a detail seen by a watchmaker during assembly. AP describes the process as beginning with computer numerical control machining of the mainplate and bridges, followed by electric discharge machining to refine the shapes, then finishing and decoration.

The brand says the movement’s polished V-angles can be seen from both sides and that all 324 are finished by hand. That figure is Audemars Piguet’s published description, not a claim based on a separate inspection. Audemars Piguet: Calibre 7124.
How the white-gold version fits the 16204 timeline
The openworked 16204 family returned in 2022 for the Royal Oak’s 50th anniversary, using Calibre 7124. The white-gold 16204BC is a later material and color variant: Monochrome covered its introduction in November 2024. Those dates distinguish the family’s anniversary return from this specific version’s arrival.

Monochrome characterized the white-gold model in 2024 as part of the permanent collection and not limited in number, while noting that production would remain confidential. That is a description published at the time, not a guarantee of present production or availability.
