The Seiko Presage Style60’s center power-reserve watch uses the indicator near 4 o’clock to show the mainspring’s estimated winding state—not a second time zone or a chronograph function. Seiko lists two references with this display, SSA447 and SSA449, both using the automatic Caliber 4R57. The available evidence supports a clear guide to the watch and its operation, but not a first-person hands-on review.
Which Style60’s watch is this?
Seiko’s official US Style60’s collection lists two power-reserve references: SSA447 and SSA449. Both use Caliber 4R57, but they are distinct references; confirm the reference on the specific watch or listing rather than assuming the two are interchangeable. A SeriousWatches dealer video identifies its subject as SSA447J1. Seiko’s Style60’s collection and the SSA447J1 dealer video provide those identifications.
What does the center power-reserve indicator show?
The indicator is a gauge of the mainspring’s winding state and an estimate of how long the watch can continue running. It is not a second-time-zone hand or a chronograph hand. Seiko’s 4R57 manual associates a half-wound indication with about 20 hours of operation and a full-wound indication with about 41 hours. These are estimates, not a precise countdown; the display need not reach exactly empty when the watch stops. Seiko’s Caliber 4R57 manual explains the indicator and its limits.
Movement and winding
Seiko describes the 4R57 as an automatic movement that can also be wound manually. Its manual lists 29 jewels, a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour, and more than approximately 41 hours of continuous operation when fully wound. In everyday terms, plan on about 41 hours of reserve, while remembering that the indicator reports an estimate rather than an exact remaining-runtime figure.

Winding a stopped watch
- Turn the crown clockwise until the power-reserve indicator shows full.
- The crown may continue to turn after the watch is fully wound; Seiko says this does not damage the mechanism.
Setting the date
Do not set the date between 9:00 p.m. and 1:30 a.m., according to Seiko’s manual. Adjust the date after months with fewer than 31 days.
Style and design inspiration
Seiko says the Style60’s collection takes inspiration from its 1964 Crown Chronograph, which the company describes as Japan’s first wristwatch equipped with a stopwatch function. The modern Style60’s combines that historical influence with contemporary details and earth-tone colors; the power-reserve watch is not itself the 1964 chronograph.

Seiko highlights box-shaped glass, faceted indexes, sharply designed hands, contrasting finishes on the inner and outer dial areas, and a gently rounded case. These are manufacturer descriptions of the collection’s design, not independent assessments of finishing or legibility. Seiko’s collection page describes these features.
Case measurements and hands-on evidence
The SeriousWatches video result for SSA447J1 reports a 40.8 mm case diameter and a 48.8 mm lug-to-lug distance. Those measurements come from the dealer source; an independently verified, official model-specification page for them is not established here. Case dimensions alone also cannot establish how a watch will fit a particular wrist.

A model-specific price for SSA447 or SSA449 is not established by the cited sources, so no price figure can be responsibly assigned here. Price depends on market and seller; check current authorized listings for the exact reference before buying. Seiko’s US collection page showed SSA449 as sold out when checked, but that page status is time- and market-specific and does not establish availability elsewhere. Seiko’s US lineup result lists USD 595 for SSA425, a different reference, so that price should not be treated as the price of SSA447 or SSA449. Seiko’s US Style60’s lineup is the source of the SSA425 listing.
