Fitbit Edge sits between Google’s screenless Fitbit Air and its full smartwatch, Pixel Watch 5: it adds a small display and more at-a-glance fitness information without claiming to be Google’s most capable watch. That makes it the option to consider if you want a screen for stats and coaching cues but do not need a smartwatch-first device.
What is the Fitbit Edge?
Fitbit Edge is a health and fitness tracker with a glanceable display. Google lists it from $179.99 on its product page, accessed October 12, 2026; price and availability can vary by market. Google says it tracks activity, sleep, heart and cycle health, and offers built-in GPS, an elevation-tracking altimeter, notifications and music controls. It works with Android and iOS and integrates with the Google Health app. Google’s Fitbit Edge product page

Google advertises up to seven days of battery life and a full charge in 90 minutes. These are manufacturer specifications, not independently tested results. The product page also says turn-by-turn Google Maps directions are “Coming soon,” so check the current listing if that feature matters to you.
How does Fitbit Edge compare with Fitbit Air and Pixel Watch 5?
Google’s wearable lineup draws a clear distinction by form factor: Air is screenless, Edge has a glanceable display, and Pixel Watch 5 is positioned as the company’s “most powerful watch.” Google lists Edge and Air as compatible with Android and iOS, while Pixel Watch 5 is listed for Android. Google introduced Air as a screenless wearable on May 7, 2026, and described the Google Health app as the destination for Fitbit health data. Its launch announcement also included three months of Google Health Premium with Air; those were launch terms and should not be assumed to apply now. Google’s Fitbit Air announcement
What does Edge add over Air?
The display is the main difference. Air is designed to track without a screen; Edge lets you check stats and see visual coaching cues on the device. Google also describes Edge as having built-in GPS and an elevation-tracking altimeter, plus notifications and music controls. Those features make Edge more useful when you want feedback on your wrist during an activity, while retaining the tracker rather than full-smartwatch positioning.

Google describes personalized coaching built with Gemini as a Google Health Premium feature, not an automatic, unrestricted capability included with the tracker. The May 2026 announcement listed Premium at $9.99 per month or $99 per year, but those are dated terms; check Google’s current subscription page before budgeting for it. Edge is a tracker tier, not a smaller version of every Pixel Watch function. Google’s own positioning reserves the “most powerful watch” description for Pixel Watch 5, while Edge’s advertised focus is health and fitness tracking. Launch coverage also reports that Edge has no NFC and therefore does not support Google Wallet; quick replies to messages are limited to Android. These details come from launch reporting rather than Google’s main product summary, and could change with software or vary by region. 9to5Google’s launch report WIRED’s launch coverage

Google’s official page lists Maps turn-by-turn directions as “Coming soon,” rather than as an available feature. If navigation, contactless payment or smartwatch functions are decisive, check the current specifications and software status before choosing Edge.

- Choose Air if you want Google’s screenless tracker form factor and do not need on-device stats or visual cues.
- Consider Edge if you want a display for glanceable fitness information, built-in GPS and a tracker-oriented device that works with Android or iOS.
- Look at Pixel Watch 5 if you want Google’s highest-tier watch rather than a fitness tracker; its listed phone compatibility is Android only.
Google’s product page includes the Stephen Curry collaboration line, “Designed in collaboration with 4x NBA champion Stephen Curry to step up your game, mixing maximum performance with legendary style.” That is Google’s promotional copy, not an independent assessment of the device.
