For basic smartwatch use, Fitbit Edge is the better fit if you want longer stated battery life and support for either Android or iPhone. Apple Watch SE 3 makes more sense if you already use a compatible iPhone and want Apple’s watchOS experience, everyday functions, and safety features. Which watch works with your phone?
Choose Fitbit Edge if you may use Android or iPhone
Google lists Fitbit Edge for Android 11 or later and iOS 16.4 or later on its US comparison page. That makes it the more flexible option if you switch between the two platforms or do not own an iPhone. Confirm your phone’s operating-system version before buying, since compatibility requirements can change.

Apple lists SE 3 compatibility with iPhone 11 or later, including iPhone SE (2nd generation or later), running iOS 27 or later. It is not the choice for an Android phone. If your iPhone cannot run the required iOS version, check Apple’s current specifications before purchasing.

Battery life and charging routine
Google rates Fitbit Edge for up to 7 days between charges. Apple rates SE 3 for up to 18 hours of normal use and up to 32 hours in Low Power Mode. On those published estimates, Edge is the stronger option if you want to charge less often; SE 3 asks for a more frequent charging routine. Actual time between charges depends on use, settings, and conditions, and the estimates do not come from a matched test.

Fitness tracking or broader smartwatch functions?
Fitbit Edge: fitness features with some capabilities still pending
Google describes Edge as “Your daily health and fitness companion, with coaching built with Gemini.” Its listed functions include workout tracking, health metrics, notifications, quick replies, Bluetooth media controls, built-in GPS, and Google Maps directions. Google marks some capabilities—including certain coaching, health, and directions features—as coming later. Treat those as announced or pending rather than guaranteed available now; check the product page for current rollout status and regional availability.

Apple Watch SE 3: activity tracking plus everyday and safety functions
Apple lists workout and activity tracking, heart-rate functions, sleep tracking, Emergency SOS, Fall Detection, and Crash Detection for SE 3. Feature availability can depend on configuration, software, and region. For any safety-related decision, consult Apple’s current feature notes for the watch and your location rather than treating the feature list as a guarantee of emergency response.

Size, water resistance, and fit
Google gives Fitbit Edge dimensions of 39.2 × 25.5 × 11.5 mm and ratings of 5 ATM and IP68. Apple offers SE 3 in 40 mm and 44 mm case sizes and rates it water resistant to 50 meters. These are manufacturer ratings, not assurances that either watch suits every water activity; check the relevant product guidance for your intended use. Apple’s two case sizes also give you a choice of watch scale, while Google’s published Edge dimensions provide its single stated size.

On Apple’s US purchase page, SE 3 GPS starts at $249 for 40 mm and $279 for 44 mm; GPS + Cellular starts at $299 and $329, respectively. Those are US store prices, not international price guidance.
