The Formex Essence 39 Malachite is a limited-edition 39 mm automatic chronometer with a natural malachite dial. Formex’s CEO said the edition was limited to 100 pieces annually; the brand’s current collection page marks this version out of stock. Detailed specifications below come from authorized retailer Chrono Theory, not a hands-on examination.
What is the Formex Essence 39 Malachite?
Formex lists the Automatic Chronometer “Malachite” 39 mm within its Essence ThirtyNine collection. The brand describes the collection as its flagship and bestselling line, and says its 39 mm watches are COSC-certified automatics with a patented Case Suspension System and micro-adjustable clasps. Those are collection-level statements from Formex, rather than independent test findings.
The Malachite’s defining feature is its natural-stone dial. Chrono Theory, an authorized retailer, says the pattern varies between dials and describes its appearance as changing with the light. That means two examples need not have identical green veining; the description is the retailer’s account, not a controlled analysis of the stone or its optical properties.
What are the listed specifications?
Chrono Theory lists the following model-specific details for reference FMES39-MA. Its product page does not state a publication or update date, so treat the figures as retailer-published specifications and confirm them against the exact watch and seller listing.

These are not specifications to automatically carry over to every current Essence 39. Formex’s collection now includes refreshed models, and the retailer-listed SW200-1 and 41-hour reserve apply here to its Malachite listing; verify the movement and other details for any specific watch being offered.
How limited was the Malachite edition?
In a retrospective about 2022 releases, Formex CEO Raphael Granito wrote that the Essence 39 Malachite was “limited to 100 pieces annually.” He also said the limited-edition watches sold out in less than a week. This is Formex’s account of the original release, not evidence of current resale value, the authenticity of a present-day listing, or the total number of Malachite watches currently available across the secondary market. Is the Formex Essence 39 Malachite still available?
Formex’s official Essence ThirtyNine page currently marks the Malachite version out of stock. Availability can change, but the page does not establish current secondary-market stock or completed-sale prices. If considering a pre-owned or new-old-stock example, check the exact reference, condition, provenance, seller, warranty status, and included bracelet or strap. Compare prices only after confirming currency, market, taxes, and configuration; displayed prices on the brand page vary with those selections.
How should you judge fit?
The listed 39 mm diameter gives one useful comparison point, but it cannot establish how the watch will sit on a particular wrist. The sources cited here do not establish the Malachite model’s case thickness or lug-to-lug measurement, and there is no hands-on fit assessment of this variant here. Try on the actual watch if possible, or seek owner reports specifically for the Malachite rather than borrowing wrist impressions from other Essence models.

Is there a current Formex route to a malachite look?
Formex’s Bespoke program says stainless-steel Essence models in 39 mm and 41 mm can be considered for gemstone bezels, and shows an Essence Malachite with a tsavorite bezel as an example. Requests are reviewed individually: the brand selects eligible watches, defines the setting with the customer, and completes approved creations in Switzerland. Feasibility, timing, and pricing are confirmed case by case. This is a bespoke option, not a restock of the original limited-edition Malachite watch.
