It was not flown to Mars or tested in space: AMADEE-24 was a four-week simulation conducted in Armenia, with a command center in Vienna.
What is the Fortis AMADEE-24?
Fortis introduced the Novonaut AMADEE-24 on May 13, 2024, as a limited edition based on its Novonaut chronograph. The manufacturer says the 100-piece run sold out within weeks. Its connection to AMADEE-24 is a design brief informed by the mission simulation, not evidence of space qualification or use on Mars. Fortis’s product history records the launch and sell-out claim.
The Austrian Space Forum and Armenian Aerospace Agency conducted the four-week simulation in Armenia, while a command center operated in Vienna. The reported aim was to study equipment and operations relevant to a future Mars mission. The setting and purpose matter: this was an Earth-based analog exercise, not a Mars expedition. How the bezel represents communication delay
The matte titanium bezel has a bidirectional 60-minute scale arranged with two ten-minute countdown segments. Fortis’s explanation, as reported by Fratello, was to let the wearer use the minute hand and bezel to estimate when a reply might arrive after a message was sent. The timing concept relates to communication delay in the Vienna–Armenia simulation; it does not make the watch a communications device or establish that it was used in a Mars environment.

Why the chronograph focuses on 30 minutes
The dial gives prominence to a 30-minute counter and central chronograph seconds. It omits the conventional 12-hour chronograph counter, leaving the 6 o’clock area for the mission badge. Fratello reports that the layout reflects experiment intervals that were typically shorter than 30 minutes. A dial engraving representing Mars’s axial tilt is a visual motif, rather than another timing scale.

Fratello reported a €6,100 launch price in 2024. Fortis’s regional product listing, accessed October 7, 2026, lists CHF 5,500 and says online sold out. These figures refer to different currencies, dates, and contexts, so they should not be treated as a direct price comparison or as a current offer. Fratello’s report gives the launch-era euro figure; the Fortis product page shows the regional listing and online status.

Fortis’s history page says the limited edition sold out within weeks, while its current regional listing indicates availability only through selected partners. That does not establish inventory at any particular retailer or a resale value. Anyone searching for the exact model should verify the reference F2040016, seller, condition, and whether the watch is complete with its bracelet and additional strap.

What the AMADEE-24 connection does—and does not—mean
- It does mean: Fortis designed a limited-edition chronograph around communication-delay timing and short experiment intervals associated with the Armenia analog mission.
- It does not establish: a Mars flight, spaceflight testing, independent performance measurements, or a published accuracy result.
- For replacement parts: Fortis’s downloads page lists a general instruction manual and strap-size guide, but those materials do not establish model-specific replacement-part compatibility. Confirm fit with Fortis or an authorized partner before ordering components.
