The Fortis Stratoliner S-41 is a 41 mm automatic chronograph with Fortis’s Werk 17 movement, a 60-hour power reserve and 200 m water resistance. Fortis lists the White Dust version, reference F2340006, at 5,050 CHF including taxes and duties. Its “space-tested” story refers to movement testing on a stratospheric balloon and a 2022 suborbital rocket test—not evidence that a retail Stratoliner flew in orbit.
What “space-tested” means for the Fortis Stratoliner
Fortis says it worked with the Swedish Space Corporation (SSC) to test Werk 17 movements. Its account describes a test batch mounted on a gondola carried by a stratospheric balloon from Esrange Space Center. The flight lasted 1.5 hours and landed in Finland. Fortis also says it launched a suborbital express rocket in 2022 to assess tool watches under rocket-launch conditions. Fortis’s Stratoliner collection page describes the collaboration; Monochrome’s May 2022 report describes 13 encased movements sent into the stratosphere on a sensor- and camera-equipped gondola.
That supports Fortis’s description of Werk 17 as space-tested in these specific test environments. The cited accounts do not establish that a production Stratoliner watch went into orbit, that an example was worn in space, or that the watch has an independently established spaceflight certification.

Fortis lists the movement as regulated to chronometer standards under its own performance requirements. That wording should not be read as a claim of independent COSC certification. The listed package includes a performance certificate, user manual and reversible screwdriver for bracelet or strap changes; Fortis also lists a mirror tool for bracelet adjustment as a webshop item.

Fratello reported prices of €5,150 for Gravity Black and €5,500 for Reentry in its variant review. Those are reported euro prices from that review, not current conversions or guarantees of availability. Fortis’s collection page is the source for the displayed CHF prices and current variant lineup.
Does the Stratoliner wear large?
The dimensions give a more useful starting point than a blanket claim that it wears big or small: the case is 41 mm across, but measures 50.5 mm lug-to-lug and 14.5 mm high. Those measurements, rather than diameter alone, are the ones to compare with a watch that already fits your wrist well.

In its hands-on review, Fratello’s reviewer said the watch was not the smallest or lightest in their collection, yet felt surprisingly ergonomic and comfortable on their wrist. That is one reviewer’s subjective impression, not a fit guarantee; wrist shape and preferred proportions matter.

- Gravity Black: The dark dial and DLC-coated mid-case give it a darker look; Fortis lists it at 4,900 CHF.
- Reentry Edition: Its hand-flamed titanium dial is individually varied in appearance, with a listed CHF price of 5,250.
- Supernova: Cool Gray and Cosmic Gray versions add gold detailing, cost 7,700 CHF on the collection page, and are limited to 13 pieces per color through selected retailers.
For the limited Supernova editions, Fortis’s 2025 announcement gives the edition and retailer details. Check your market’s current stock and price rather than relying on an older price quoted in another currency.
