The prices often attached to this comparison are from December 2022, not current offers.
What was the Brick Watch?
Time+Tide’s December 2022 comparison described the Brick Watch Company Classic ’22 as Dave Portnoy’s 316L stainless-steel automatic watch, with a Sellita SW 200-1 movement, 38 mm and 42 mm case options, several dial configurations and 100 m water resistance. It reported a launch-era price of US$2,400. Some of the article’s observations were based on product imagery, so these details should be treated as its reported specifications rather than a hands-on comparative test. Brick Watch Company’s homepage currently labels its listed Classic ’22 variants “Sold Out.” That indicates the status displayed on the company site when checked on 8 October 2026; it does not establish whether watches are available through resale or remaining inventory elsewhere. Time+Tide later reported that Portnoy announced a fire sale and an 80% markdown in November 2024. That was a reported announcement at the time, not evidence of a discount or availability today. Time+Tide’s report

How the four alternatives differ
These watches are not four versions of the same proposition. Compare case dimensions and style first, then movement, reserve, water resistance and complications. The prices below are those reported by Time+Tide in December 2022; they are historical reference points, not current quotes.

Longines Spirit 37: the smaller, certified option
At 37 mm, the Spirit is the smallest case in this comparison. Time+Tide reported that its L888.4 calibre carries COSC certification, a 72-hour power reserve and a stated accuracy range of +6/−4 seconds per day. Its 2022 price on bracelet matched the Brick’s reported launch-era price, but that historical comparison says nothing about today’s retail price.
Choose it if a smaller watch and the cited movement credentials matter more to you than matching the Brick’s styling. Time+Tide’s positive assessment of the Longines’ build and finish was the author’s judgment, not a measured test.

Monta Noble: compact proportions and 150 m rating
The Noble’s reported 38.5 mm diameter is close to the Brick’s 38 mm version. Its 9.7 mm thickness and 47 mm lug-to-lug measurement add useful fit context beyond diameter alone: lug-to-lug length can help indicate how much of the wrist the case spans. Time+Tide reported 150 m water resistance and a 42-hour power reserve.
This is the strongest fit to consider if you want a compact everyday-watch shape with a higher stated water-resistance figure than the other three alternatives. The historical US$1,795 price was lower than the Brick’s reported launch price, but it is not a current quote.

Hamilton Khaki Aviation Pilot Day Date Auto: larger and more functional
The Hamilton is the clear larger-case choice here at a reported 42 mm, matching the Brick’s larger size option. Its H-80 automatic calibre was reported with an 80-hour power reserve—the longest figure among these four—and the dial adds both day and date. Time+Tide also reported 100 m water resistance.
Consider it if you want the day-date complication and a bigger aviation-inspired watch rather than the more compact proportions of the Longines or Monta. The US$945 figure is from the 2022 comparison, not a current price.

Oris Divers Sixty-Five: choose the diver look, not a visual substitute
The Divers Sixty-Five is the style outlier. Its vintage-inspired diver design, timing bezel, domed sapphire crystal and screw-down crown make it a different-looking choice from the Classic ’22. Time+Tide reported 100 m water resistance and an SW 200-1-based movement; it explicitly did not present the Oris as a one-to-one visual alternative to the Brick.
Pick the Oris because you want that diver aesthetic and its bezel, not because you expect it to look like the Brick. Its reported US$2,200 price is a December 2022 comparison figure only.
Which one should you choose?
- For the smallest case and cited chronometer certification: Longines Spirit 37.
- For compact dimensions and 150 m stated water resistance: Monta Noble.
- For a 42 mm case, day-date display and the longest reported reserve: Hamilton Khaki Aviation Pilot Day Date Auto.
- For a vintage-inspired diver with a timing bezel: Oris Divers Sixty-Five.
