What Fratello’s 2025 GPHG list represents
Fratello’s September 10, 2025 article is a category-by-category set of favorites drawn from the GPHG nominees. The Academy selected the nominees; Fratello made its own choices from that field. Its list is best read as an invitation to compare watches and debate preferences, not as a forecast of the awards. Fratello’s article gives its reasoning and reported prices for each selection.
The official GPHG press release described the 2025 event as the award’s 25th edition, with 90 nominated watches competing for 20 prizes, including the Aiguille d’Or Grand Prix. The Geneva ceremony was scheduled for November 13, 2025; that date has passed. The official 2025 nominee list identifies the comparison set. The Foundation’s Academy overview says members propose eligible models and participate in voting; a 30-member jury physically evaluates nominated watches before the final ballot, while other Academy members vote digitally.

What links the selections—and what does not
The picks range from intricate mechanics to gem-setting and unusual time displays. Some choices turn on a specific engineering feature, such as the Armin Strom’s resonating balance wheels or Bvlgari’s exceptionally thin tourbillon. Others emphasize material and craft, from the Tambour’s diamonds to the Chopard’s straw marquetry. The Amida and Hermès picks make the display itself central to the appeal.
Fratello describes the field as colorful and design-heavy and calls attention to pale blue as a noticeable dial color. That is the article’s visual impression, not a quantified finding about the nominees or watch market. Its reported selected-watch prices span CHF 660 to CHF 635,000; because they are figures published in September 2025, they should not be treated as current retail prices or market valuations.

How to use the list
For a reader choosing personal favorites, the most revealing comparisons are the ones the watches invite: mechanical complication versus unconventional display, restrained dial versus decorative craft, and compact case dimensions versus a distinct material or engineering idea.
