Black lives in Sydney, where July is winter, so his seasonal framing reflects life in the Southern Hemisphere as well as his interest in beach and ocean time.
What Henry Black’s 2025 summer list includes
The picks are best read as a set of individual preferences. They serve different purposes and are not directly comparable as one “best summer watch” contest. The figures below are those reported in Black’s July 2025 Fratello article unless otherwise noted.
| Pick | Type and reported details |
|---|---|
| Rolex Oyster Perpetual 36 “Pistachio” | Everyday mechanical watch; 36 mm, caliber 3230, approximately 70-hour power reserve and 100 m water resistance. |
| IWC Pilot’s Watch Automatic 41 Lake Tahoe | Pilot-style automatic; 41 mm white ceramic case, 120-hour power reserve and 10-bar water resistance. |
| Seiko 5 SRPL93 “Gene Kranz” | Vintage-inspired automatic; 38.2 mm diameter, 12.3 mm thick, 44.7 mm lug-to-lug and 100 m water resistance. |
| Doxa SUB 250T GMT Sharkhunter Vintage | GMT watch; 250 m depth rating, Swiss GMT caliber, red GMT hand and tobacco sunray dial. |
| Cressi Neon | Wearable dive computer with a watch function—not strictly a dive watch; 48 mm case and 120 m depth rating. |
| Favre Leuba Sea Sky | Ocean-going chronograph; 40 mm case and a La Joux-Perret caliber, with no reference specified in the article. |
The main watch picks
Rolex Oyster Perpetual 36 “Pistachio”
Black singles out the pistachio dial among the newer Oyster Perpetual colors and says the 36 mm line is a favorite. Fratello reports a caliber 3230 movement, approximately 70 hours of reserve, a screw-down crown, 100 m water resistance and Chromalight. Rolex’s current US collection page lists pistachio among Oyster Perpetual colors and shows a 36 mm Oystersteel version: Rolex Oyster Perpetual collection. However, the individual Rolex reference 126000 page currently displays a candy-pink dial, not a pistachio product page; it confirms the general 36 mm Oystersteel case, screw-down crown, 100 m rating, caliber 3230 and approximately 70-hour reserve: Rolex reference 126000. Dial and reference availability, as well as prices, can vary by market and date.
IWC Pilot’s Watch Automatic 41 Lake Tahoe
Black likes the contrast of the white ceramic case and black dial. The Fratello article reports a 41 mm case with titanium crown and case back, IWC/ValFleurier caliber 32112, a 120-hour reserve, 10-bar water resistance and 11.4 mm thickness. His enthusiasm has reservations: he prefers the baton-style hands associated with the Mark series to this watch’s Big Pilot-influenced handset, and finds its font less elegant. Those are design judgments, not specification faults. The article does not establish current IWC availability or independently confirm these specifications.
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Seiko 5 SRPL93 “Gene Kranz”
Black describes the SRPL93 as a limited-edition reissue of the Seiko 5 6119-8460, associated with NASA flight director Gene Kranz. He prefers its black dial to the silver-dial SRPL91. Fratello reports a 38.2 mm diameter, 12.3 mm thickness, 44.7 mm lug-to-lug measurement, 100 m water resistance, bidirectional 60-minute bezel and 4R36 caliber. The article is the source for both the historical association and the specifications; current availability and official Seiko specifications are not established here.
Doxa SUB 250T GMT Sharkhunter Vintage
Black reports a 250 m depth rating and a Swiss GMT caliber but does not name the caliber. He likes the cushion-case proportions on his slender wrist, the red GMT hand and the tobacco sunray dial. That emphasis on fit is useful: a case shape can wear differently from another watch with the same nominal diameter, and the article supplies no case dimensions for a direct size comparison.

Favre Leuba Sea Sky
Black calls the Sea Sky a handsome ocean-going chronograph and says it looks fun to wear. Fratello gives its case diameter as 40 mm and identifies the movement only as a caliber from La Joux-Perret. The article does not provide a caliber reference or further technical details, so it supports a design recommendation rather than a full specification comparison.
The unusual honorable mention: Cressi Neon
The Cressi Neon is a wearable dive computer with a watch function, not a conventional dive watch. Black includes it as an aspirational piece of scuba equipment and a reason to learn to dive, rather than as a mechanical-watch alternative. Fratello’s 2025 article reports a 48 mm case, 38 mm screen aperture, 120 m depth rating, storage for up to 50 dives, a user-replaceable CR2450 battery with an approximately four-year lifespan and an approximate €299 price. These are article-era figures, not independently confirmed current specifications or pricing.

How to compare the picks for your own use
The list spans different categories, so start with what you need the object to do rather than choosing by water rating alone. A depth rating does not make a dive computer equivalent to a conventional watch, nor does a water-resistant everyday watch replace purpose-built dive equipment.
- Fit: Consider diameter, thickness and lug-to-lug length together. The Seiko has all three measurements reported; the IWC’s reported thickness is 11.4 mm. Try a watch on where possible, since case shape and lug geometry affect how dimensions wear.
- Water use: The reported ratings range from 100 m on the Rolex and Seiko to 250 m on the Doxa; the Cressi is rated to 120 m. Match the rating and product type to the intended activity, and check the maker’s current guidance before relying on any watch or computer in water.
- Function: The Oyster Perpetual is an everyday timepiece; the IWC and Seiko offer pilot-style and vintage-inspired design; the Doxa adds GMT functionality; the Favre Leuba is a chronograph; and the Cressi logs dives as a computer.
- Movement and reserve: The Rolex and IWC article figures give named calibers and reserves, while the Seiko’s reported caliber is 4R36 without a reserve figure. The Doxa caliber is unnamed in the article, and the Favre Leuba caliber reference is not given.
- Price and availability: Black’s article is not a normalized current-price comparison. Apart from the Cressi’s approximate 2025 article price, it does not provide comparable prices; current regional stock and pricing are not established.
For Rolex, the official collection and reference pages clarify the distinction between a dial color appearing in the range and the dial shown on a particular reference page. For the other picks, treat the technical details above as Fratello’s July 2025 reporting rather than a current manufacturer-by-manufacturer verification.
