The 2023 Classic Power Reserve Big Date Manufacture makes a credible case that Frédérique Constant was reaching toward a higher tier of watchmaking—but it is a signal, not proof of a brand-wide strategic shift. Its new in-house FC-735 calibre, precious-metal limited editions and substantially higher prices for those editions point upward, while the steel model’s classic design and sub-US$5,000 launch price kept the collection comparatively accessible.
Why this watch drew an upmarket reading
Frédérique Constant introduced the Classic Power Reserve Big Date Manufacture in 2023, its 35th anniversary year. The company described the FC-735 as its 31st Manufacture calibre and its first movement to bring a big date, moon phase and power-reserve indication together on one dial. Time+Tide read the release as a sign of the brand going upmarket, a reasonable interpretation of the combination of a new in-house movement, precious metals and sharply tiered launch prices.
That interpretation should stay attached to this release. The collection shows the brand offering a more ambitious, complication-rich watch; it does not, by itself, establish a change across the whole company. The standard steel models remained part of the regular collection and launched at US$4,995, with restrained styling rather than an overtly experimental design.
What the FC-735 offers
Three complications, controlled at the crown
The automatic FC-735 combines a big date, a moon phase and a power-reserve display, with a stated 50-hour power reserve. Frédérique Constant says winding, time-setting and operation of all three complications are handled through the crown at 3 o’clock, without pushers, correctors or styluses. The brand called the movement “resolutely modern” on that basis. The manufacturer’s launch description is available in its official announcement.

The design choice is a practical counterpoint to the watch’s complication count: it avoids separate controls on the case. The available evidence describes the operating arrangement but does not establish how it feels in use or how quickly each display can be adjusted.
Key specifications
For the official US reference FC-735N3H6, Frédérique Constant lists a 40 mm stainless-steel case, 12.19 mm thickness, 5 ATM water resistance, 20 mm lug width, blue dial and alligator-leather strap. The international specification page additionally lists 28,800 vibrations per hour and 32 jewels. These figures apply to the listed reference and page, not automatically to every precious-metal variant. See the US product listing and international specifications.

Four versions at launch
The 2023 announcement described two standard steel versions, one with a blue dial and one with a silver dial, plus limited editions in rose gold and platinum. The platinum edition has a meteorite dial. Edition counts and launch prices below are those reported for the 2023 release; they are not current quotes.
| Launch version | Case and dial | Edition | 2023 US launch price | Water resistance |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Steel, blue dial | Stainless steel; blue dial | Standard collection | US$4,995 | 5 ATM, per the steel specification |
| Steel, silver dial | Stainless steel; silver dial | Standard collection | US$4,995 | 5 ATM, per the steel specification |
| Rose gold | 18k rose gold | 350 pieces | US$19,995 | 3 ATM, reported by Time+Tide |
| Platinum | Platinum; meteorite dial | 35 pieces | US$27,995 | 3 ATM, reported by Time+Tide |
Time+Tide reported availability from November 2023 and the launch prices for all three price tiers; Hodinkee independently reported the steel and rose-gold launch prices. The precious-metal editions’ smaller production runs and higher prices create the clearest contrast with the accessible steel entry point.

Launch prices versus current US listings
The official US pages currently display different prices for two steel references: US$6,195 for FC-735N3H6 and US$6,395 for FC-735B3H6. These are reference-specific displayed prices, not a single price for every version. Compared with the 2023 steel launch price reported by Time+Tide and Hodinkee, both are higher; the available information does not establish why the prices differ or changed. Prices and availability can change, so check the relevant reference page at the time of purchase.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Does it prove Frédérique Constant is going upmarket?
No single release can prove a brand-wide repositioning. This one does support the more limited claim that Frédérique Constant was willing to put a new Manufacture calibre, three dial-side indications and scarce precious-metal editions into the same collection. Time+Tide’s upmarket reading follows from that package and the 2023 price gap between steel and precious metal.

- Case
- - Case Material: Stainless Steel
- - Case Shape: Round
- - Case Colour: Silver
- - Crystal: Sapphire crystal
There is also a counterweight to that reading: the steel watches were regular-collection pieces launched below US$5,000, and the styling remained classic. The most accurate conclusion is that the collection signals an upmarket ambition at its top end without abandoning a relatively accessible steel option. No sales, market-share or other brand-wide data here demonstrates a broader strategic shift.
