The G-SHOCK MTG-B3000PRB-1A—also listed as MTGB3000PRB1—is an aurora-inspired MT-G watch distinguished by a recrystallised, rainbow-ion-plated steel bezel. Casio lists Tough Solar power, Bluetooth and Multiband 6 timekeeping, sapphire crystal, and 20-bar water resistance. This is a product-focused overview of Casio’s published specifications, not a firsthand wear review: no physical specimen was examined for this article.
What makes the MTG-B3000PRB-1A the Aurora Oval?
The defining feature is its stainless-steel bezel, treated by recrystallisation and deep-layer hardening, then finished with rainbow ion plating. Casio says the process creates differences in grain, pattern, tone and lustre from one watch to another; the rainbow colour also varies by unit. As Casio’s Singapore release puts it, “The look of the rainbow IP colour will vary from watch to watch.” Product photography should therefore be treated as an example of the finish, not a guarantee that every watch will look identical.
Casio describes deep-layer hardening as infusing carbon into the steel surface to create a hardened layer, rather than simply applying a surface coating. The case back is also rainbow-ion-plated and repolished so its raised areas stand out. The aurora effect is thus rooted in the treatment of the metal, while the watch’s overall construction combines metal exterior components with a protective carbon-fibre-reinforced resin case.
That construction is Casio’s Dual Core Guard structure: the carbon-fibre-reinforced resin case protects the module, with metal components forming the exterior. The band is translucent purple resin, also described regionally as soft urethane. Casio’s regional descriptions specify a purple ion-plated buckle and a rose-gold- or brown-toned band loop.
#1 Best Overall
- Immerse yourself in stunning structural and luminous beauty — metal meets resin in a very special textural MT-G timepiece inspired by the aurora borealis.
- The stainless steel bezel is treated first with recrystallization and deep-layer hardening processes, then a rainbow ion-plated (IP) coating is applied for an extraordinary top bezel developed with just this design in mind.
- Each timepiece is a one-of-a-kind, thanks to the unique differences in crystalline grains*1 and rainbow IP colors.*2
- 1 The stainless steel is processed into components and then recrystallized, yielding unique differences in crystalline grain that make for subtle differences in pattern, color tone, and luster from part to part.
- 2 The look of the rainbow ion-plating color will vary from watch to watch.
Size, materials and core specifications
Casio Europe lists the following measurements and materials for the MTG-B3000PRB-1A on its current specification page:
| Specification | Casio-listed detail |
|---|---|
| Dimensions | 51.9 × 50.9 × 12.1 mm |
| Weight | 111 g |
| Case and bezel | Carbon and stainless steel |
| Band | Resin |
| Crystal | Sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on the inside |
| Water resistance | 20 bar |
| Resistance features | Shock resistance; regional feature descriptions also specify Triple G Resist for shock, centrifugal force and vibration |
These are manufacturer specifications, not measurements taken from a watch handled for this article. The 20-bar rating is the stated water-resistance specification; it does not by itself describe the condition of an individual used watch or establish its present sealing performance.

Power, timekeeping and functions
The MTG-B3000PRB-1A combines Tough Solar charging, Bluetooth Smartphone Link and Multiband 6 radio time calibration. Casio lists these functions:
- Dual time
- Stopwatch and countdown timer
- Alarm
- Date and day display
- Super Illuminator LED
Casio says its CASIO WATCHES app supports automatic time adjustment, watch setting, world time for approximately 300 cities, time-and-place logging, watch-status display, self-check and phone finder. These are manufacturer-described app capabilities; the list does not establish how well a particular phone, app version or regional service will work with an individual watch.
Rank #3
- Case size (L× W× H): 55.1 × 49.8 × 15.9 mm
Can you change the band?
Casio says the band can be released by pressing buttons at the lugs, without special tools. That describes the removal method, but does not establish which replacement bands are currently sold or which third-party straps fit. Check compatibility for the exact MTG-B3000PRB-1A before buying a substitute rather than assuming a generic strap will fit.
Release date and current availability
G-SHOCK Singapore’s release page, published 5 June 2023, gives 23 June 2023 as the date the model became available online and in stores. Casio’s US product page currently labels MTGB3000PRB1 “Discontinued.” That is a US regional status, not proof that authorized retailers or secondhand examples are unavailable in every market. Stock and pricing depend on region and seller; confirm the exact model number, condition and seller’s current listing before purchasing.

Is this a firsthand review?
No. A hands-on review should identify the specific specimen and distinguish observed details—such as how the band feels, how the watch sits on a wrist, and how the finish looks in person—from published specifications. No watch was physically examined for this article, so it makes no claims about comfort, wrist fit, finishing quality on a particular unit, or real-world performance. The variation Casio describes in the bezel and rainbow IP makes that distinction especially important: an individual example may differ visibly from official product images.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Who should consider the MTG-B3000PRB-1A?
This model is a candidate for someone seeking an MT-G with a distinctive, variable rainbow-metal finish and a combination of solar charging, Bluetooth-linked functions and radio time calibration. The practical checks are its substantial listed dimensions and 111 g weight, the translucent purple resin band, and whether the model can be found through a reputable seller in the buyer’s region. Those specifications help set expectations, but they cannot substitute for trying on a specific watch when wrist fit matters.
