Casio places these watches in its square 5600 series, and its Fine Metallic and Modern Industrial collections show metal-bezel variants. The key point to understand first: a Fine Metallic GM-5600 has a stainless-steel bezel over a resin case. It is a metal-bezel watch, not a full-metal one. If full-metal construction is the requirement, the GMW-B5000 is the adjacent model to compare, and it is built differently.
Which square G-SHOCK has a stainless-steel bezel?
Casio’s official GM-5600 collection page identifies the GM-5600 as a member of its square 5600 series with a metal bezel. That series contains several variants, and not every variant is sold in every region, so the exact model code matters more than the family name. Casio’s GM-5600 collection page is the place to confirm which variants the series currently includes.
What a metal bezel does and does not mean
A metal bezel is the outer ring that surrounds the watch face. On the Fine Metallic GM-5600, Casio describes that ring as stainless steel, and the case beneath it as a glass-fiber-reinforced resin. The metal is visible and gives the watch its finish, but the body is not solid metal. That matters for weight, feel and how the watch is described when you compare it with a full-metal model.
Casio’s Fine Metallic page also describes the bezel as forged, cut and polished. Those are manufacturer descriptions of how the part is finished, and they explain the look rather than rank the watch’s durability against other models.

The GM-5600 variants to compare
Three product lines matter for this search. The table below uses only what Casio’s pages state; where a detail is not on the cited page, the cell says so.
| Option | Construction, as Casio describes it | Finish and look | Listed functions and water resistance | Where to check |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| GM-5600 family | Square 5600 series with metal-bezel variants | Varies by variant; check the exact model | Varies by variant; not stated at family level | Casio GM-5600 collection |
| Fine Metallic GM-5600YM | Stainless-steel bezel over a glass-fiber-reinforced resin case | Silver and gold treatments shown in the collection; silicone and urethane flexible band | Shock resistance, 20-bar water resistance, 1/100-second stopwatch, countdown timer, multifunction alarm, flash alert, LED backlight | Casio Fine Metallic series |
| Modern Industrial GM-5600M and GM-5600BM | Metal-bezel square options; full case material not stated on the cited collection page | Textured industrial finish; bio-based resin noted for key band components on the GM-5600M model page | Same core functions and 20-bar water resistance as the Fine Metallic listing | Casio Modern Industrial collection |
| GMW-B5000 | Full-metal, shock-resistant construction, separate from the GM metal-bezel approach | Not stated on the cited page | Not stated on the cited page | Casio 5000 and 5600 Series Origin |
Fine Metallic GM-5600YM
This is the clearest match for a shopper who wants a visibly metallic square with the GM-5600 layout. Casio lists its functions as shock resistance, 20-bar water resistance, a 1/100-second stopwatch, a countdown timer, a multifunction alarm, flash alert and LED backlight. The band is a flexible silicone and urethane design. Check the page for the exact color before buying, because the collection shows more than one treatment.

- Streamlined design, striking functional beauty, shock-resistant construction - a toughness-driven G-SHOCK with a monochromatic modern industrial look
- The digital GM-5600, with iconic shape and metal bezel, and the analog-digital combination GM-2100 take on an achromatic color scheme that highlights the chic beauty of simplicity and functionality
- For the GM-5600BM and GM-2100BM, black ion-plating is applied to all bezel components other than the top surface, adding depth and solidity to the bezel and amplifying the chic, unified look
Modern Industrial GM-5600M and GM-5600BM
The Modern Industrial models are also identified as metal-bezel squares. Their look is more textured and industrial than the Fine Metallic styling, and Casio notes bio-based resin for key band components on the GM-5600M model page. Casio lists the same core functions and 20-bar water resistance for these models, so the choice between the two lines usually comes down to finish and band look.
GMW-B5000 for full-metal construction
The GMW-B5000 is the option to consider only if the bezel-over-resin construction is not acceptable. Casio describes it as full-metal and shock-resistant, which is a different build from the GM-5600 approach. Because the cited page does not list its full feature set or finish details in the same way, check the exact model page before comparing specifications.

Why Casio says the bezel is built this way
Casio’s technology page says the protruding bezel that surrounds the watch absorbs shock, protects the buttons and guards the crystal. That is the manufacturer’s explanation of the design. It is not an independent comparative test, and it does not establish how the GM-5600 performs against other watches in a drop.
Casio’s 5000 and 5600 series page says the square design has been carried through the series. The original proposal is credited to designer Kikuo Ibe, who was then responsible for watch exterior design. Casio’s 5600/5000 brand page quotes the original brief as A durable watch that would not break even if dropped
, and says the idea was submitted at a company meeting after Ibe recalled dropping and breaking a watch at work. That account comes from Casio’s own history page, so read it as the company’s origin story.

How to compare the exact model you are considering
Model codes change between collections and regions, so use this order when you shortlist a watch:
- Open the collection page for the line you want (Fine Metallic, Modern Industrial or the GM-5600 collection) and find the model code.
- Confirm the construction line. A metal bezel over a resin case and a full-metal build are different things.
- Compare the functions list against the table above, especially the stopwatch, countdown timer, alarm, flash alert and LED backlight.
- Check the finish and color you want, since the same model code can appear in more than one treatment.
- Look at the band material on the product page. The Fine Metallic band is silicone and urethane; Modern Industrial bands are described with bio-based resin components on the GM-5600M page.
- Confirm the model is listed in your region before you compare prices or retailers.
Evidence limits on “best”
Casio’s pages establish which models are metal-bezel squares and what they list as functions. They do not establish which one is best. No independent comparative test, dated study or third-party ranking was found that ranks these variants by durability, value or popularity, so this guide does not rank them that way. Choose by construction first, then by finish, band and the functions you will actually use.

Searching and buying
Search terms that match this category include “G-SHOCK square with metal bezel,” “GM-5600 metal bezel,” “GM-5600 Fine Metallic” and “GM-5600M.” When you buy, name the exact color and model code, and confirm the listing and price on the retailer’s page at the time of purchase. Availability and pricing vary by region and collection.
The GMW-B5000 is a useful comparison for shoppers who specifically want full-metal construction. For most shoppers asking about a square G-SHOCK with a metal bezel, the GM-5600 family is the answer, and the Fine Metallic and Modern Industrial lines are the two variants to compare first.
