Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked 2025 took place on July 9, 2025—not before it. The company announced the Galaxy Z Fold7, Galaxy Z Flip7, Galaxy Z Flip7 FE, Galaxy Watch8 and Galaxy Watch8 Classic. Sales began in 49 markets on July 25, 2025. The biggest confirmed changes were a much thinner Fold7, a larger-cover-screen Flip7, and a slimmer Watch8 focused on sleep, running and Samsung Health.
This is therefore an archival rumor roundup and retrospective: what was expected before Unpacked, what Samsung actually announced, and which compromises matter to buyers.

Quick verdict
- Galaxy Z Fold7: the most substantial redesign, with an 8.0-inch inner display, 6.5-inch cover display, 215g body and Samsung’s first 200MP camera in a Fold model. It remains expensive, retains a 4,400mAh battery and does not support the S Pen.
- Galaxy Z Flip7: the more practical foldable for most people, with a 4.1-inch FlexWindow, 4,300mAh battery and 188g weight. It is designed around using more features without opening the phone.
- Galaxy Z Flip7 FE: the lower-cost entry point, with U.S. MSRP starting at $899.99 for 128GB, but it is not equivalent hardware to the flagship Flip7.
- Galaxy Watch8: a slimmer, cushion-shaped smartwatch with Wear OS 6, One UI 8 Watch, dual-frequency GPS and new sleep, running and wellness tools.
- Galaxy Watch8 Classic: the choice for a traditional appearance and physical rotating bezel.
Samsung’s official announcements confirm the final products, but they do not prove that every individual leak was accurate or came from a reliable source.

What Samsung was expected to announce
Before the event, the Galaxy Z Fold7 and Galaxy Z Flip7 were near-certain. A new Galaxy Watch generation, including a Classic model, was also strongly expected. The Galaxy Z Flip7 FE was plausible but less certain, while a refreshed Watch Ultra and expanded Galaxy AI services were reasonable possibilities.

More dramatic claims—including a tri-fold phone, satellite connectivity, a major S Pen redesign, revolutionary battery technology or an entirely new form factor—required considerably more caution. Pre-launch specifications can combine prototypes, regional variants and outdated information, so the correct way to read a rumor is with its date, source and confidence level.
Galaxy Z Fold7: thinner and lighter, but not a complete compromise-free upgrade
The Fold7 was the event’s largest hardware change. Samsung’s official specification sheet lists an 8.0-inch inner display, a 6.5-inch cover display, a 4.2mm thickness when unfolded, an 8.9mm thickness when folded and a 215g weight. Samsung also highlighted a redesigned Armor FlexHinge, wider cover-screen proportions and reduced crease visibility.
The headline camera change is a 200MP main camera—the first in a Galaxy Z Fold model. The rear system also includes a 10MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom. The phone uses the Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy processor and includes Wi-Fi 7, UWB, Samsung DeX and IP48-rated water resistance.
Storage options are 256GB, 512GB and 1TB. The lower storage tiers have 12GB of RAM, while the 1TB version has 16GB. Samsung committed to seven years of operating-system and security updates.
The Fold7’s important limitations
- No S Pen support: the official specification sheet says the Fold7 does not support Samsung’s S Pen. That matters for buyers who view the Fold as a digital notebook or productivity device.
- No larger battery: despite the thinner body, capacity remains 4,400mAh. Thinness and portability improved, but Samsung did not solve the fundamental battery trade-off.
- IP48 is limited protection: it should not be interpreted as complete dustproofing, rugged certification or protection from hinge damage and long-term wear.
- Resolution is not image quality: a 200MP sensor is a meaningful hardware change, but megapixels alone do not establish better real-world photographs.
- Price remains extreme: Samsung’s September 2025 U.S. MSRP sheet listed the Fold7 at $1,999.99 for 256GB, $2,119.99 for 512GB and $2,419.99 for 1TB. Those are historical MSRPs, not current August 2026 prices.
The Fold7 makes sense for people who will genuinely use a tablet-sized screen for split-screen work, documents, multitasking or media. A conventional flagship remains more sensible for buyers who prioritize lower cost, simpler repairs or a lighter everyday phone.

Galaxy Z Flip7: the cover screen becomes the main usability story
The Galaxy Z Flip7 has a 6.9-inch internal display and a 4.1-inch FlexWindow cover display, both with a 120Hz refresh rate. Samsung lists up to 2,600 nits brightness, a 6.5mm unfolded profile, a 13.7mm folded profile and a weight of 188g.

Its 4,300mAh battery is the largest in the Z Flip line at launch. The rear camera system includes a 50MP main camera with Samsung’s ProVisual Engine, but there is no dedicated telephoto camera. That makes the Flip7 a weaker choice than the Fold7 for serious zoom photography.
The redesigned Armor FlexHinge and edge-to-edge FlexWindow support the phone’s central idea: more useful interactions while closed. Samsung highlighted widgets, messaging, schedules, the Now Bar, Now Brief and Gemini Live. Gemini Live can be activated by holding the side button, although AI availability depends on region, language, carrier, software version and, for some features, a Samsung Account.

Samsung’s September 2025 U.S. MSRP was $1,099.99 for 256GB and $1,219.99 for 512GB. The Flip7 is best for people who value pocketability, hands-free photography and a stylish compact design more than maximum camera versatility or gaming performance.

Galaxy Z Flip7 FE: the product the original title would have missed
Samsung also announced the Galaxy Z Flip7 FE, positioned as a more accessible way into the Flip design. Samsung says it includes a 50MP camera, ProVisual Engine and Galaxy AI features, but “FE” should not be read as “the same phone for less.” Buyers should expect hardware differentiation compared with the flagship Flip7, particularly around display, processor and other specifications.
The September 2025 U.S. MSRP was $899.99 for 128GB and $959.99 for 256GB, in Black and White. That price ladder materially changed the buying decision: readers interested in the Flip form factor no longer had to start with the flagship model.
Galaxy Watch8 and Watch8 Classic
The Galaxy Watch8 comes in 40mm and 44mm sizes, while the Watch8 Classic is 46mm. Samsung gave the Watch8 a slimmer 8.6mm profile, a cushion-shaped case and a Dynamic Lug System. The Classic restores a physical rotating bezel and adds a quick button for a more traditional watch-like experience.
Both lines launched with Wear OS 6 and One UI 8 Watch. Hardware highlights include a 3nm processor, dual-frequency GPS and Samsung’s BioActive Sensor. Google Gemini was available out of the box for supported functions.

Availability can depend on country, phone model, software version and regulatory approval. The Watch8 is primarily designed for Samsung Galaxy users, and some functions may be limited with non-Samsung Android phones. It is not a replacement for professional medical care.
Samsung also refreshed the Galaxy Watch Ultra with a Titanium Blue finish, although the central smartwatch announcement focused on the Watch8 and Watch8 Classic.

Software, Galaxy AI and Gemini
The Fold7 and Flip7 launched with Android 16 and One UI 8. The Watch8 family launched with Wear OS 6 and One UI 8 Watch. Samsung promoted multimodal Galaxy AI, Writing Assist, Drawing Assist, Now Brief, Now Bar, Circle to Search improvements, Generative Edit, Suggest Erase, Audio Eraser and Gemini Live.

On the Watch8, AI is tied more closely to health and fitness coaching. On the Flip7, the emphasis is on useful interactions from the cover screen. On the Fold7, the larger display makes editing, multitasking and AI-assisted work more practical.
However, “AI-powered” does not guarantee accuracy, offline operation or uniform access. Samsung says availability varies by country, device, carrier, operating-system or One UI version, and feature. AI output should be checked rather than treated as authoritative.

Who should have waited—and who should have bought differently?
- Fold6 owners: wait if the thinner, lighter body and 200MP camera solve a specific need. Do not upgrade expecting S Pen support or a larger battery.
- Flip6 owners: consider the Flip7 mainly for the larger FlexWindow, thinner body and bigger battery. The upgrade is less compelling if those features are unimportant.
- First-time foldable buyers: choose the Fold7 for multitasking, the Flip7 for compactness, or the Flip7 FE for the lowest entry price.
- S Pen users: the Fold7 is not the right choice if integrated stylus support is essential.
- Samsung Health users: the Watch8 is the more relevant upgrade, especially for sleep guidance and structured running plans, but check regional support and phone compatibility first.
- Traditional-watch fans: choose the Watch8 Classic if tactile rotating-bezel navigation matters more than the slimmer minimalist design.
Pricing, promotions and ownership costs
The cited prices are U.S. MSRPs from Samsung’s September 2025 price sheet. They should not be confused with launch promotions, carrier financing, trade-in credits or current street prices. Colors, storage tiers, processor variants, carrier support and AI or health features can vary by market.
Foldable ownership also involves more than the purchase price. Buyers should compare case costs, repair exposure, protection-plan terms and trade-in conditions. Samsung promoted Samsung Care+ for accidental damage, repairs and replacements, but monthly prices and deductibles vary by country, device and plan. The same caution applies to Samsung New Galaxy Club: eligibility, fees and upgrade rules require confirmation on the current Samsung page.
Samsung also announced six months of Google AI Pro and 2TB of cloud storage at no cost with the Fold7, Flip7 and Flip7 FE. That was a launch promotion, not an offer that should be assumed to remain available in 2026.

Availability
Samsung began selling the new devices in 49 markets on July 25, 2025, with broader availability afterward. “Global availability” did not mean that every color, storage tier, health feature or carrier configuration was offered in every country.
