Yes—the claim was real, but it is historical. Samsung opened the One UI 6 Watch beta to Galaxy Watch 4 and Watch 5 families in 2024, initially in the United States and South Korea. Enrollment took place through Samsung Members, not through an ordinary firmware download. The beta program has since ended, so in 2026 owners should use the latest stable update offered in Galaxy Wearable.

The beta was announced in May 2024 and began rolling out in June 2024. Samsung identified the United States and South Korea as the initial markets. Bluetooth models appeared first, with LTE versions and older generations added during later phases. As a result, eligibility was not necessarily simultaneous for every Watch 4 or Watch 5 variant.

What One UI 6 Watch was testing
One UI 6 Watch was Samsung’s wearable interface update built around newer Wear OS features and the software platform introduced with the Galaxy Watch7 generation. Samsung emphasized health, sleep, fitness, watch faces and Galaxy AI-assisted experiences.
That did not mean every Galaxy Watch7 feature worked identically on a Watch4 or Watch5. Functions can vary according to the watch’s hardware, paired phone, country, Samsung account, app support and Samsung Health Monitor certification.

Requirements during the 2024 beta
A typical eligible setup required:
- A Galaxy Watch4, Watch4 Classic, Watch5, Watch5 Pro, Watch6 or Watch6 Classic.
- A supported model and connectivity variant in an active beta market.
- A compatible Android phone with Google Mobile Services.
- The Galaxy Wearable app and relevant watch-management components.
- A Samsung Account signed in to Samsung Members.
- A charged watch, a stable Wi-Fi connection and a recent backup.
Watch4 and Watch5 models cannot be set up with an iPhone. Samsung’s current compatibility guidance says Wear OS Galaxy watches require a compatible Android phone and Galaxy Wearable. A non-Samsung Android phone, imported device or region-mismatched Samsung Account was not guaranteed to show the beta registration.

- Open or update the Samsung Members app on the compatible phone.
- Sign in with the Samsung Account associated with the phone and watch.
- Look for the One UI Watch beta banner or beta-program notice.
- Read and accept the terms, then submit the registration.
- Install any beta version of Galaxy Wearable or the watch-manager component offered as part of enrollment.
- Open Galaxy Wearable, select the watch and check for a software update.
- Download and install the update while the watch was connected to Wi-Fi and power.
Samsung’s beta guidance recommended Wi-Fi before downloading and warned users to back up their data. Depending on the software version, the update could appear through Galaxy Wearable or through a software-update screen such as Settings → Software update → Download and install. Why some owners never saw the beta banner
A missing banner did not automatically mean that the entire Watch4 or Watch5 family was excluded. Common explanations included:
- The beta was not available in the owner’s country.
- The exact watch variant had not yet entered the rollout phase.
- Bluetooth and LTE models were being added at different times.
- The Samsung Account or phone region did not match the supported market.
- Samsung Members, Galaxy Wearable or its plug-in was outdated.
- Enrollment had closed or reached capacity.
- The watch was paired with an unsupported phone.
Samsung’s public model list should therefore be read as a phased eligibility announcement, not a promise that every Watch4 and Watch5 configuration could enroll immediately.

Beta risks and rollback limits
Beta firmware is not equivalent to a stable public update. Possible problems included crashes, increased battery drain, pairing failures, missing notifications, app incompatibilities and unreliable health readings. Samsung warned that unexpected beta behavior could result in data loss and recommended making a backup first.
Backup and restore may not preserve every setting or piece of health data. Do not assume that reverting to stable software is a simple switch: downgrading may require a reset or assistance from Samsung support or a service center. Report problems through Samsung Members or Galaxy Wearable, and do not install unofficial firmware packages.

What Galaxy Watch 4 and 5 owners should do in 2026
Do not search for the old beta registration as the normal installation route. Instead:

- Make sure the watch is paired and sufficiently charged.
- Open Galaxy Wearable and select the watch.
- Open Watch settings → Watch software update, or the equivalent update screen shown by the current app.
- Install the latest stable update offered for that exact model and region.
Menu names can differ by Galaxy Wearable version, phone software and country. Samsung later expanded the relevant stable wearable experience to the Watch4, Watch4 Classic, Watch5, Watch5 Pro, Watch6, Watch6 Classic and Watch FE. Its rollout announcement is documented in the Samsung Newsroom.
The bottom line
Galaxy Watch4 and Watch5 owners really were included in Samsung’s One UI 6 Watch beta, but access was limited by market, model, connectivity type and rollout timing. The beta was a Samsung Members program in 2024—not a worldwide firmware download—and it is no longer the appropriate installation path. In 2026, check Galaxy Wearable for the latest stable software available to your watch.
