Low-resolution photographs of Samsung’s Galaxy Watch7 and Galaxy Watch Ultra appeared in China’s TENAA certification listings on July 8, 2024, two days before Samsung unveiled the watches. The images showed the central design split: Watch7 kept a familiar round profile, while the Ultra paired a round display with a more squared-off case. They offered a useful look at the hardware, but not proof of the watches’ full specifications.
What appeared in the TENAA listings
The photographs were part of certification listings published by TENAA, China’s telecommunications and product-certification authority—not Samsung press images or editorial hands-on photos. Their low resolution made the overall shapes easier to judge than details such as materials, finishes, software, or retail packaging. Battery-capacity information was also reported alongside the images.
That distinction matters: a certification photo can show that a device exists and reveal its exterior, but it cannot independently establish performance, battery life, health features, final pricing, or every regional configuration. Android Headlines reported the listings and images on July 8, 2024.
Watch7 looked familiar; the Ultra did not
Galaxy Watch7: a conventional round watch
The TENAA images showed Watch7 with a round body and display, visually close to the preceding Galaxy Watch generation. They suggested continuity rather than a major exterior redesign. The photos alone could not establish the complete range of sizes or finishes; Samsung later announced 40mm and 44mm versions, with Cream, Green, and Silver options distributed across models and markets.

Galaxy Watch Ultra: a round screen in a squircle case
The Ultra had a circular display set into a noticeably more squared-off, rounded-corner outer case. Its larger, more rugged-looking body set it apart from the everyday Watch7. The shape also invited comparisons with Apple Watch Ultra, but visual resemblance is not evidence of copying or of Samsung’s design intent. Earlier leaked renders had offered additional views; the TENAA images mattered because they showed physical certification subjects rather than renders alone. See Android Authority’s pre-launch render coverage.
The images did not prove durability ratings, processor, storage, health features, battery endurance, or price. Those required Samsung’s subsequent disclosures or other documentation.

What the battery listing did—and did not—tell readers
The July 8 report said TENAA material included battery-capacity information, but a capacity figure is not a runtime test. Actual endurance depends on configuration and use, including case size, LTE, GPS, display settings, health sensing, workouts, and power-saving settings. A larger nominal battery does not guarantee a proportionally longer time between charges.
The reporting available here does not establish the capacity figures themselves, so they should not be repeated as numbers. Samsung’s official specifications, rather than an inferred conversion from a regulatory listing, are the appropriate basis for product battery claims. In any case, neither a regulatory capacity nor a manufacturer’s stated estimate is a promise of real-world battery life under every workload.

Samsung confirmed both watches two days later
Samsung announced the products at Galaxy Unpacked in Paris on July 10, 2024, and said global availability would begin July 24. The company’s official announcement used the product names Galaxy Watch7 and Galaxy Watch Ultra. “Galaxy Watch7 Ultra,” common in some pre-launch rumor wording, was not the Ultra’s final name.
The launch disclosures filled in details the pictures could not: Watch Ultra was a 47mm titanium model with LTE, while Watch7 came in 40mm and 44mm sizes, with Bluetooth/Wi‑Fi and LTE variants depending on market. Samsung also announced the Exynos W1000 platform, Wear OS 5 powered by Samsung, and a new BioActive Sensor generation. The Ultra’s stated construction and durability specifications included titanium and 10ATM water resistance; that rating should not be stretched into a claim that the watch is suitable for every kind of diving or high-pressure water activity.

Samsung also described Galaxy AI-related wellness insights and sleep-related tracking, including sleep-apnea-related functionality where available and supported. Health-feature access can vary by country, model, paired smartphone, software, and regulatory approval; these functions should not be treated as medical diagnoses. Samsung’s U.S. Watch7 listing includes additional feature and availability qualifications.

| Category | Galaxy Watch7 (2024) | Galaxy Watch Ultra (2024) |
|---|---|---|
| Design | Traditional round case and display | Rounded-square outer case with round display |
| Size | 40mm or 44mm | 47mm |
| Positioning | Mainstream smartwatch for everyday use and health tracking | Premium model with rugged and outdoor emphasis |
| Connectivity | Bluetooth/Wi‑Fi and LTE variants, depending on market | LTE configuration |
| Materials and durability emphasis | Aluminum case in the 2024 generation | Titanium case; 10ATM water resistance specified by Samsung |
| U.S. launch price | Approximately $299.99 starting price, depending on configuration | $649.99 |
| Likely fit | People who want a smaller or less expensive Galaxy smartwatch | People who want the larger premium format and rugged positioning |
The 47mm Ultra is a substantial watch and may feel too large or heavy for people with smaller wrists or who prefer a discreet design. Its higher launch price bought a different size, construction, and positioning—not a need for most everyday users. LTE versions may also involve carrier activation and recurring service costs. Before buying a band or relying on a health feature, check compatibility for the precise watch, phone, and market rather than assuming older bands or every Galaxy feature will work.
What the leak got right, and what it could not establish
- It got the broad design contrast right. Samsung launched a conventional round Watch7 alongside an Ultra with a more squared exterior and round display.
- It showed real certification subjects. That made the images useful evidence of the physical devices, even though the photographs were blurry.
- It did not amount to a complete specification sheet. Processor, software, final prices, health capabilities, durability claims, and regional variants were matters for later confirmation.
- It did not measure battery life. Regulatory capacity information cannot substitute for runtime testing or a clearly qualified manufacturer estimate.
Launch prices are historical, not today’s product catalog
This is a retrospective account of a July 2024 leak. Samsung’s U.S. store now lists a separate Galaxy Watch Ultra (2025); its current listing should not be confused with the 2024 Ultra shown in the TENAA photographs. Watch7 remains listed in the U.S. store, including the 40mm Bluetooth model and a 44mm Bluetooth/Wi‑Fi listing. Store prices, availability, promotions, and configurations can change; check the listing for the exact model and market before making a purchase.
