Samsung’s 47mm Galaxy Watch Ultra2 makes two headline physical changes over the original Ultra: its 800mAh battery is rated 35% larger, and its case is 12% thinner. It also upgrades the display and processor and adds new running, hydration and diving features. Samsung announced the watch on July 22, 2026, with US availability from August 7.

These figures describe capacity and design, not a measured improvement in hours of use. Samsung’s July 22, 2026 announcements do not publish an independent battery-life test or a controlled hours-per-charge comparison. A 35% capacity increase should therefore not be read as a promise of 35% longer runtime.

Trail Run
Trail Run adds metrics for elevation, climbing progress and terrain impact, aimed at runners training on uneven or hilly routes.
Nutrition Alert
Nutrition Alert offers hydration guidance based on estimated sweat loss relative to body weight. It is an estimate for guidance, not a substitute for assessing your needs in the conditions you are exercising in.

Can the Galaxy Watch Ultra2 track scuba dives?
Samsung says the Ultra2 automatically records dive depth, time and water temperature. It carries IP69K, 10 ATM and EN13319 ratings. Samsung also says advanced diving features developed with Mares require a later app download; those added features are not available simply by turning on the watch out of the box.
These specifications and tracking features do not establish that the watch can replace dedicated dive equipment or that it is safe for every dive. Divers should follow the applicable equipment guidance and rely on gear appropriate to their planned conditions.

Is the Ultra2 worth upgrading to?
The most concrete upgrade case is for someone who wants a thinner case, more battery capacity, a brighter-rated display or the new trail, hydration and dive functions. The thinner body and lighter band may also matter if comfort is a priority. The 5,000-nit figure is a peak rating, not a guarantee of that brightness in every setting.
The case for upgrading is less clear if your priority is longer real-world runtime or faster GPS: Samsung’s announcement gives no controlled battery-hours comparison and no measured processor or GPS result. Also consider that Samsung brought several features to the original Ultra through One UI 8 Watch in 2025, including Running Coach, Vascular Load, Antioxidant Index, Multi-Info Tiles and Now Bar. Those are software additions to the prior model, not Ultra2-only hardware changes.

Price and availability
Samsung listed the 47mm Galaxy Watch Ultra2 at $699.99 in the United States, with general availability beginning August 7, 2026. The cited announcement specifies US pricing; it does not establish prices or launch dates for other markets.
