Garmin Connect+ is an optional premium tier, not a complete paywall. Garmin announced it on March 27, 2025 at a launch price of $6.99 per month or $69.99 per year after a 30-day free trial. Existing Garmin Connect features and data remain free, while Connect+ adds AI insights, advanced dashboards, selected coaching and sharing tools, Live Activity, Nutrition, Garmin Trails and other device- and region-dependent extras.

Garmin Connect+ is an optional premium subscription inside Garmin Connect—not a paywall over your existing Garmin watch data. Garmin announced it on March 27, 2025, with a launch price of $6.99 per month or $69.99 per year after a 30-day free trial. The annual plan saves $13.89 compared with 12 monthly payments, an effective discount of about 16.6%.

The subscription adds AI-generated insights, advanced data analysis, extra coaching content, phone-based workout controls, enhanced LiveTrack, Garmin Trails features, nutrition logging, social rewards and other selected tools. Garmin said the existing Garmin Connect experience and historical data would remain free, although the exact feature boundary can change by device, region and software version.

Important date qualification: $6.99 is the price documented at launch. Check Garmin’s current price and regional availability before subscribing, because subscription pricing and included features can change.

Active Intelligence: Garmin’s AI interpretation layer

Active Intelligence uses health and activity data to produce personalized insights and suggestions. Garmin describes it as becoming more tailored as it learns more about an individual’s activities, performance metrics and goals. At launch, Garmin described the feature as being in beta.

In practical terms, this is an interpretation layer over the information Garmin already collects. It is intended to help users make sense of trends and decide what to pay attention to, rather than simply presenting another set of numbers.

There are two important limitations. First, the quality and usefulness of any suggestion will depend on the amount and consistency of data available, as well as the sensors and features supported by the user’s device. Second, this is not medical advice. Garmin’s nutrition documentation says its nutrition tools are for general wellness and informational purposes and are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent disease.

Performance Dashboard: more than 140 ways to compare your data

The Performance Dashboard is the clearest Connect+ feature for users who enjoy analyzing their own trends. Garmin says its May 14, 2026 explanation includes more than 140 premade charts, with dashboard options for strength training, running, cycling, multisport or a fully custom setup.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The charts can put different kinds of information next to one another, including:

  • Training data and training load
  • Resting heart rate
  • Sleep score
  • Heart-rate variability
  • Stress
  • Strength-training information

That makes it possible to investigate questions such as whether periods of heavier training coincide with changes in resting heart rate, or whether particularly demanding runs appear alongside changes in sleep score. The dashboard visualizes correlations in the user’s personal data; it does not establish that one metric medically caused another.

For people who already export data to spreadsheets or third-party analysis services, the dashboard could reduce that manual work. For someone who mainly checks the day’s steps, workout summary or standard Garmin metrics, its additional value is likely to be much lower.

Adding body-composition data

Garmin’s Performance Dashboard material specifically references the Garmin Index S2 smart scale as another possible source of weight, BMI and body-fat data. It is not required for Connect+, and it does not turn the dashboard into a medical assessment. It is simply an optional way to add more inputs to a broader personal trend view.

Live Activity: use your phone as an indoor workout display

Live Activity lets you start an activity on a compatible Garmin device and use the Garmin Connect phone app to see live information. Depending on the activity and device, the phone can show real-time heart rate and pace, indoor-workout videos, repetitions and weight information, and may allow you to stop, resume or otherwise control the session.

Garmin lists compatible activity profiles including:

  • Cardio
  • Elliptical
  • HIIT
  • Indoor cycling
  • Indoor rowing
  • Pilates
  • Stair stepper
  • Strength
  • Treadmill
  • Yoga

Live Activity is not a universal phone companion for every Garmin watch. Garmin’s current support material lists compatible devices across families such as Cirqa, D2, Descent, Enduro, epix, fēnix, Forerunner, MARQ, quatix, tactix, Venu and vívoactive, but the exact model and activity profile matter.

You need both an active Connect+ subscription and a compatible Garmin device. Garmin also states that Live Activity ends when the subscription expires. If indoor video, a large phone display or phone-based workout controls are the main reason you are considering Connect+, verify your exact watch and preferred workout profile first.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Training Guidance: extra content for selected Garmin Coach plans

Connect+ adds exclusive Garmin Coach guidance, educational content and videos for compatible Garmin Run Coach, Cycling Coach and, in Garmin’s 2026 feature overview, Triathlon Coach plans.

This is an enhancement to supported coaching plans—not a statement that every Garmin training plan is now premium or that all Garmin Coach functionality requires a subscription. The plan, device and region must support the relevant Connect+ content.

Enhanced LiveTrack: more prominent activity sharing

The enhanced version of LiveTrack can send selected contacts a text notification when an activity starts. It also lets you create a personalized LiveTrack profile page that can be shared with followers.

That is different from Garmin charging for the basic existence of your recorded activity. It is an additional sharing and notification layer. Smartphone pairing, compatible hardware and Garmin’s safety-feature limitations still apply. As with any location-sharing tool, check who receives notifications and what information your shared profile exposes before using it.

Garmin Trails: route discovery and eligible offline transfer

Garmin Trails is aimed at hiking, backpacking and trail running. In supported areas, users can discover routes and filter them by characteristics such as:

  • Trail type
  • Dog-friendliness
  • Terrain
  • Waterfalls, rivers and forests
  • Permitting requirements
  • Steepness

Route pages can include distance, ascent, descent, estimated time, photographs and community reviews. Garmin says a Connect+ or Outdoor Maps+ plan allows eligible trails to be sent to a compatible device for offline access. Users can also save trails to courses for editing or for adding points of interest.

Coverage is geographically selective, even though Garmin lists numerous countries and territories, including the United States. A route-discovery feature that is useful in one country may not offer the same coverage elsewhere. Confirm availability in your area before treating Garmin Trails as a reason to subscribe.

Nutrition: the major post-launch expansion

Garmin announced Connect+ Nutrition on January 5, 2026. It brings food tracking into Garmin Connect and connects it with the rest of the user’s activity and wellness information.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Garmin lists these capabilities:

  • Calorie and macronutrient tracking
  • Search across a global food database
  • Barcode scanning
  • Food recognition using a smartphone camera
  • Custom foods and meals
  • Daily, weekly, monthly and annual reports
  • Custom calorie and macronutrient goals
  • Active Intelligence insights based on nutrition and activity data

Food can be logged in the Garmin Connect app and, on supported watches, through a Nutrition glance. Garmin’s compatibility material lists native or Connect IQ Nutrition support across a substantial range of devices, including the fēnix 8, Forerunner 570 and 970, Instinct 3, Venu 3 and several older product lines. The exact list is version-sensitive, so check the current Garmin support page for the specific watch and software version.

The MyFitnessPal limitation

Garmin requires users to choose between Garmin Nutrition and MyFitnessPal as the active food-data source. Historical information remains visible after switching, but new data will not continue syncing from the disconnected source.

If Connect+ expires, existing Garmin Nutrition data remains viewable. However, Garmin says you can no longer edit entries or log new food through Garmin Nutrition. That distinction matters if you are considering a short trial: your history is not described as being deleted, but the premium logging workflow stops when the subscription does.

Badges, challenges and profile customization

Connect+ subscribers receive exclusive badges, badge challenges and profile personalization such as profile frames. Garmin’s launch examples included monthly running-climb and power-cycling challenges.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

These are engagement features, not new sensor capabilities. They may be worthwhile for users who enjoy Garmin’s challenge system, but they are unlikely to justify $6.99 per month on their own unless the social and motivational elements are central to how you use your watch.

Year in Review, 3D Maps and exclusive offers

Garmin’s current Connect+ support index also identifies Year in Review, 3D Maps and Connect+ exclusive offers as feature areas.

The available Garmin material confirms that these belong to the Connect+ feature family, but it does not establish enough detail here to promise a particular Year in Review format, 3D Maps coverage, device matrix, offer inventory, discount value or geographic eligibility. Treat them as support-listed benefits rather than guaranteed benefits with a fixed scope.

In particular, “exclusive offers” should not be read as a guaranteed discount on a Garmin watch or accessory. Garmin’s available documentation does not specify the current offer, eligibility rules or value.

What remains free in Garmin Connect?

Garmin’s launch announcement said that existing Garmin Connect features and data would remain free. Connect+ is therefore best understood as an optional enhancement tier, not a requirement to keep access to your historical activities or ordinary Garmin Connect experience.

That means the subscription is not a charge to access:

Who should pay for Connect+?

It makes the strongest case for:

  • Data-oriented athletes: You are likely to use the Performance Dashboard to compare training load, sleep, recovery and health trends instead of merely glancing at individual scores.
  • People who want integrated food logging: You prefer to keep calories and macros alongside Garmin activity data and accept Garmin Nutrition becoming the active food-data source instead of MyFitnessPal.
  • Indoor-training users: You will regularly use Live Activity’s phone display, videos, live metrics or workout controls with a compatible watch.
  • Trail users in supported areas: Garmin Trails offers routes you actually use, and offline transfer to your compatible device is valuable to you.
  • Users who enjoy Garmin’s ecosystem: Extra coaching, challenges, profile features and LiveTrack notifications collectively improve an experience you already use frequently.

It is less compelling for:

  • Users who mainly need basic activity recording
  • People satisfied with standard Garmin metrics and existing training plans
  • Anyone who rarely opens Garmin Connect after a workout
  • Users whose watch does not support the specific premium feature they want
  • People outside Garmin Trails coverage areas
  • Anyone unwilling to switch the active food-data source away from MyFitnessPal

Buying a compatible Garmin smartwatch can be the more important decision than buying Connect+ itself. The watch supplies the activity, health and training data used by many of the premium features, and several features require compatible Garmin hardware. Do not assume that every Garmin watch supports every Connect+ function, and do not assume that buying a watch includes unlimited Connect+ access unless the specific listing says so.

Check these details before subscribing

  1. Confirm the exact model. Check Garmin’s current Connect+ compatibility information for your specific watch, not just its product family.
  2. Confirm the desired feature. A watch may support Performance Dashboard data but not Live Activity, Nutrition, offline Trails transfer or every Training Guidance option.
  3. Check firmware and app requirements. Wrist-based Nutrition and other device features can depend on current software.
  4. Check your country or territory. Garmin Trails coverage, subscription availability, offers and feature access can vary by region.
  5. Check your phone connection. Live Activity and enhanced LiveTrack require smartphone pairing and may have additional requirements.
  6. Decide whether MyFitnessPal matters. Garmin Nutrition and MyFitnessPal cannot both remain the active food-data source for new entries.
  7. Review the current price. The documented launch price was $6.99 monthly or $69.99 annually, but subscription pricing can change.
  8. Remember the trial’s end date. If you start the 30-day trial, check the renewal terms shown in your Garmin account and cancel in time if you do not want a paid subscription.

Garmin says subscription enrollment is available through the Garmin Connect app or a Garmin Connect web account, and your device must be paired with the account. The exact screens and labels may vary by app version, operating system and region.

The bottom line on Garmin’s paywall

Garmin did not put the entire Garmin Connect ecosystem behind a paywall. It introduced Connect+ as a premium layer on March 27, 2025, retaining existing Garmin Connect features and data as free while charging for selected extras.

At launch, those extras centered on Active Intelligence, the Performance Dashboard, Live Activity, additional coaching guidance, enhanced LiveTrack and social features. Garmin’s feature family has since expanded to include Nutrition, Garmin Trails, Year in Review, 3D Maps and Connect+ exclusive offers, with availability varying by device and region.

At the documented $6.99 monthly launch price, Connect+ is easiest to justify if you will actively use its dashboards, food logging, indoor workout tools or supported trail features. It is much harder to justify if you only want to record workouts and view the standard Garmin data you already receive for free.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Feature and pricing information is based on Garmin’s March 27, 2025 Connect+ announcement and Garmin support material and feature explanations documented through August 12, 2026. Confirm current pricing, compatibility and regional availability directly in Garmin Connect before subscribing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Garmin Connect+ put all Garmin data behind a paywall?

No. Garmin said existing Garmin Connect features and data would remain free. Connect+ adds selected premium analysis, coaching, nutrition, navigation, workout-control, social and sharing features.

How much does Garmin Connect+ cost?

Garmin documented a launch price of $6.99 per month or $69.99 per year after a 30-day free trial. The annual plan was $13.89 cheaper than paying monthly for 12 months. Check the current price in your region before subscribing.

Does every Garmin watch support Connect+?

Not necessarily. Connect+ availability varies by device, activity profile and region. Check the exact Garmin model, current firmware, country and feature-specific compatibility list before subscribing.

What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Can Garmin Nutrition and MyFitnessPal sync at the same time?

Garmin Nutrition and MyFitnessPal must be selected as separate active food-data sources. Historical data remains visible, but new data will not continue syncing from the disconnected source.

What happens to Garmin Nutrition data if Connect+ expires?

Existing Garmin Nutrition data remains viewable after Connect+ expires, but Garmin says you can no longer edit entries or log new food through Garmin Nutrition.

Is Garmin Trails available everywhere?

Garmin Trails coverage is selective. Garmin says Connect+ or Outdoor Maps+ can enable eligible trail transfer to a compatible device for offline access, but route coverage and device support vary by location and model.

The Bottom Line

Garmin Connect+ is optional. The $6.99 monthly price documented at launch buys deeper analysis, AI insights, selected coaching and sharing tools, Live Activity, Nutrition, Garmin Trails and other extras—not access to all of your existing Garmin data. It is most useful for data-heavy athletes, indoor trainers, nutrition trackers and trail users with compatible devices in supported regions.
