Choose the Garmin Approach S72 if golf-specific analysis and on-course tools are your priority. Choose the Garmin Enduro 4 if you want a watch built around endurance training, outdoor use, and longer battery life across activities. The Enduro 4 can still handle golf: Garmin lists course maps and Virtual Caddie compatibility for it. The difference is that the S72 is designed around golf and adds golf-focused metrics and presentation.
Which watch fits your priorities?
Choose the Approach S72 for golf-first use
Garmin announced the Approach S72 on October 6, 2026, positioning it as its premium golf smartwatch. Its standout additions include golf biometrics, swing metrics, green reading on supported courses, driving-range activity logging, and putting analytics. These make it the more golf-centered option for players who want more than distances and course maps. Garmin’s S72 announcement describes the new tools.

Choose the Enduro 4 for endurance and outdoor use
Garmin positions the Enduro 4 as an ultraperformance GPS watch for endurance use. Its much longer stated battery estimates suit people who prioritize extended GPS activities and less frequent charging. It also supports golf course maps and Garmin Virtual Caddie, so choosing it does not mean giving up every golf function. Garmin’s Singapore specification page lists its hardware and battery estimates; Garmin’s golf information covers golf features.

How do their golf features differ?
Both watches have golf utility, but the S72 offers a deeper set of golf-specific tools. Garmin lists the S72’s golf biometrics, swing measurements such as hand speed and backswing length, putting analytics, driving-range logging, and green reading on supported courses. Access to green contours requires an active Garmin Golf membership.
#1 Best Overall
- New round watch design with a high-resolution sunlight-readable display
- Battery life: up to 30 hours in GPS Mode
- More than 42,000 courses preloaded from around the world
- Keep score right on the watch and upload directly to the Garmin Golf app (when paired with a compatible smartphone) to participate in weekly leaderboards
- Automatically keep track of your score and how far you hit with each club with compatible Approach CT10 club tracking sensors (sold separately)
Garmin also lists both the Enduro 4 and the S72 series as compatible with Virtual Caddie. To use it, the watch must be connected to Garmin Golf and meet a qualifying club-history requirement: five rounds with Club Prompt enabled or paired Approach CT10 sensors. Prior scorecards with assigned AutoShot data can also qualify. Big Numbers or Tournament Mode prevents Virtual Caddie use. See Garmin’s Virtual Caddie support documentation for the requirements.
That overlap matters if your golf needs are primarily course maps and Virtual Caddie: the Enduro 4 may cover them while serving as an endurance watch. The S72 is the more natural choice if its additional golf analysis is central to your decision.

Battery life: compare the mode you will actually use
The figures below are Garmin’s published maximum estimates, not independent test results. Solar estimates depend on the specified outdoor exposure: Garmin states an assumption of 50,000 lux. Actual results vary with settings and use.
| Mode | Approach S72 | Enduro 4 |
|---|---|---|
| Smartwatch mode | Up to 16 days with GPS turned off — Garmin, 2026 announcement | Up to 36 days; up to 90 days with solar — Garmin specifications, with solar exposure assumptions |
| Golf activity | Up to 20 hours — Garmin, 2026 announcement | Not stated in the cited Enduro 4 specifications |
| GPS-only | Not stated in the cited S72 announcement | Up to 120 hours; up to 320 hours with solar — Garmin specifications, with solar exposure assumptions |
| All-satellite plus multi-band | Not stated in the cited S72 announcement | Up to 60 hours; up to 90 hours with solar — Garmin specifications, with solar exposure assumptions |
The S72’s 16-day figure is specifically with GPS turned off, so it is not directly comparable to an activity-mode estimate. For golf rounds, Garmin states up to 20 hours for the S72; the cited Enduro 4 specification page does not state a golf-activity figure. The Enduro’s much higher smartwatch and GPS estimates are useful if endurance away from a charger is a major requirement.

Size, display, and construction
The watches take different physical approaches. The S72 comes in 43 mm and 47 mm sizes, with an AMOLED display, titanium bezel, sapphire lens, and ComfortFit fabric band, according to Garmin’s 2026 announcement. The Enduro 4 is listed with a 51 mm case, transflective MIP display, titanium bezel, Power Sapphire lens, 10 ATM rating, and compatibility with 26 mm QuickFit bands on Garmin’s Singapore product specification page.
Those specifications help narrow the choice if case size or display type matters to you, but they do not establish which watch feels more comfortable or is easier to read in your conditions. No independent hands-on comparison is available here to support those judgments.

Everyday features, training, and costs to check
The Enduro 4 is the endurance-oriented model; the S72 is not limited to golf, either. Garmin describes it as combining golf tools with everyday smartwatch features and lists a speaker and microphone. The available S72 announcement also states health functions, but it does not provide a full feature-by-feature comparison against the Enduro 4. Choose based on the functions you actually need rather than assuming the golf watch lacks everyday capabilities.

- More than 42,000 courses preloaded from around the world
- Provides yardages to the front, back and middle of the green, as well as to hazards and doglegs

- Automatically keep track of your score and how far you hit with each club with compatible Approach CT10 club tracking sensors (sold separately)
For price, Garmin’s U.S. S72 launch announcement lists suggested retail prices starting at $799.99. The cited Enduro 4 Singapore specification page does not establish a comparable U.S. price. Check current local listings for both watches; the launch figure is not a guarantee of today’s price or availability. Garmin’s broader golf watch comparison is useful for understanding feature terminology, but its retrieved lineup does not show the Enduro 4 and should not be treated as a direct comparison scorecard.
A simple decision checklist
- Pick the Approach S72 if you want golf biometrics, swing and putting analysis, green reading on supported courses, or a choice of 43 mm and 47 mm sizes.
- Pick the Enduro 4 if endurance activities, outdoor use, and Garmin’s longer stated smartwatch and GPS battery estimates matter most.
- Consider the Enduro 4 for golf if course maps and Virtual Caddie meet your needs; it is compatible, subject to Garmin’s connection and qualifying-history requirements.
- Check total ownership details if membership-dependent green contours or CT10-based club tracking are important, and compare current prices in your region.
Garmin Vice President of Consumer Sales and Marketing Susan Lyman described the S72 as combining biometric data, swing metrics, golf features, and everyday smartwatch tools. That is Garmin’s promotional description, not an independent assessment of how the watches perform.
