However, Garmin’s official announcement does not clearly label 10.36 as beta—and it is no longer the latest software. Garmin’s support page lists version 14.17 for Instinct 3 Solar as of July 2026.
What Garmin software 10.36 fixed
Garmin’s official 10.36 announcement said the rollout had reached 100%. The changelog lists fixes rather than new features:

These fixes do not establish improvements to battery life, GPS accuracy, general sensor accuracy or medical performance. Garmin’s manual also states that the watch is not a medical device.

The announcement covers the Instinct 3 Solar, Instinct 3 AMOLED and Instinct E families, with individual fixes applying to different editions. It should not be treated as a universal Instinct update. Instinct 2, Instinct 2X, Instinct Crossover and original Instinct models use separate software branches.

Was 10.36 really a beta update?
The safest wording is “Instinct 3 system software 10.36.” Garmin’s official forum post identifies the package as Instinct 3 Solar/AMOLED System Software 10.36, but the available announcement does not explicitly call it beta.
Garmin separately describes its beta program as early-access software that is still under development. Beta participants may receive releases before a final public version, and some features—including ECG, diving or flying apps on compatible watches—may be unavailable while beta software is installed. That general policy does not prove that 10.36 itself was distributed as beta firmware.
How to check and install an update
Garmin Connect
- Keep the watch paired with the Garmin Connect app.
- Sync the watch and keep both devices sufficiently charged.
- Accept the installation prompt when it appears.
- Do not power off or disconnect the watch during installation.
Garmin says updates can download automatically in the background and may take up to about a week to download before the watch prompts you to install them. Exact menu labels can vary by model and firmware.

Garmin Express
- Connect the watch to a computer with its USB cable.
- Open or install Garmin Express.
- Add the watch if it is not already registered.
- Follow the on-screen update instructions.
- Leave the watch connected until the process finishes.
Garmin’s Instinct 3 manual documents this USB-based procedure. The watch can also automatically check for updates when paired over Bluetooth, with a manual check available through system settings; consult the current manual for the exact path.
How to verify the installed version
Open the watch’s software or system-information screen and compare the displayed version with Garmin’s support page for your exact model. A watch running 10.36 may already be eligible for a newer release, so do not search for an old 10.36 package or assume that remaining on it is preferable.
10.36 is no longer current
For readers checking this in September 2026, 10.36 is historical firmware. Garmin’s Instinct 3 Solar software page lists version 14.17 from July 2026. Use the latest official production firmware offered for your exact watch rather than trying to install an older release.

Owners who experienced one of the 10.36 bugs still benefit from understanding the changelog, but the practical recommendation is to update through Garmin Connect, Garmin Express or Wi-Fi where supported to the current official version.

- The watch may already be on a newer version.
- Garmin may be staging availability by region or device.
- The phone may not have completed a sync.
- Bluetooth pairing may have been interrupted.
- Garmin Express may offer the update before Garmin Connect does.
First sync the watch, confirm the pairing, restart the phone and watch, and check again. Regional firmware differences can also affect timing; do not assume every market receives an update simultaneously.

- Charge the watch and phone.
- Restart both devices.
- Confirm Bluetooth pairing and a successful Garmin Connect sync.
- Try Garmin Express over USB.
- Update Garmin Connect and Garmin Express if updates are available.
- Contact Garmin Support if the watch repeatedly reverts or becomes stuck.
A Garmin forum report describes an Instinct 3 that appeared to install 10.36 but restarted on version 8.11. That is evidence of a possible failure mode, not proof that the release broadly failed. Avoid deleting system files or sideloading unofficial firmware packages.

Should you install it?
If your Instinct 3 is offered a newer official production release, install that version—not 10.36 specifically. Updating is particularly sensible for users who rely on Broadcast Heart Rate, Connect IQ data fields or a Running Dynamics Pod, but perform the update outside a race, expedition or other activity where a restart would be disruptive.
After updating, test custom data fields and confirm that compatible sensors pair normally. The changelog does not guarantee that every Connect IQ app, watch face or third-party data field will work perfectly.
