Genesis is a Hamburg-based independent watch brand founded by German master watchmaker Christine Genesis. The brand makes mechanical wristwatches, and its collection spans several named families; the historical headline “German Men’s Watches By A Woman” does not establish that every current model is designed or marketed exclusively for men.
Who is Christine Genesis?
According to ZEITGEFÜHL, Christine Genesis trained as a watchmaker, spent three years in a master workshop making and repairing high-quality wristwatches, and completed a certified chronograph course. She qualified as a master watchmaker in 2001. ZEITGEFÜHL says she then worked for more than seven years at Wempe with high-end mechanical watches and complications before becoming self-employed in 2004 and establishing a brand under her own name.

In a brand-authored anniversary notice, Christine Genesis wrote, “Seit nunmehr 20 Jahren entwerfe und fertige ich mit Leidenschaft und Freude am Handwerk mechanische Armbanduhren” (“For 20 years now, I have designed and made mechanical wristwatches with passion and joy in the craft”). The notice promoted a 20-year celebration on September 6, 2025, at Papenhuder Straße 56 in Hamburg. This is the maker’s own milestone statement, not an independent measure of the wider watch industry.
What does the Genesis watch brand make?
Genesis presents mechanical wristwatches under collection names including Genesis 1, Genesis 2, Genesis 4, Genesis Black, Genesis Classic, Genesis Geo, Genesis Luna, Genesis Aura, Genesis Lotse, and Genesis Carpe Diem. These names appear in the official collection navigation; a collection listing alone does not confirm that every reference is currently in production or available to buy.

The brand’s current news page also announces a future hand-wound model in a 40 mm diameter with several variants, and says a women’s automatic watch in multiple dial colors and variants is in development. The announcement gives neither a release date nor a price, so these should be treated as plans rather than confirmed current stock.
What are the watches like?
TechCrunch’s review of the early watches described their look as a combination of “classic traditionalism, Bauhaus, and modern minimalism.” That was the reviewer’s characterization, not a formal design statement from the brand.
A July 2024 profile in ARMBANDUHREN – Das Magazin described clear forms, orderly displays, and restrained color accents. It reported that Christine Genesis handled planning, design, case construction, movement work, and coordination of components. The article also said a pad-printing machine allowed the Hamburg workshop to produce its own dials, including custom designs on request, and that models were individually numbered and made in intentionally small limited quantities. Those are the article’s dated production descriptions, not a blanket legal or customs-origin determination.
What do the historical models show?
ZEITGEFÜHL’s descriptions document the range of complications in earlier Genesis watches. They are archival examples, not confirmation of current production specifications or availability.

Are Genesis watches for men or unisex?
The 2011 TechCrunch headline used the phrase “Genesis: German Men’s Watches By A Woman.” It captures the framing of that article, but it is not evidence that all current Genesis models are exclusively for men. In a 2020 article, The Truth About Watches described Christine Genesis’s watches as unisex, citing 38.5 mm sizing and a price of approximately $2,000 at that time. That is secondary, dated reporting—not a current specification or price for the full collection.
For fit, compare the diameter and case proportions of a particular reference with the wearer’s wrist and preferences rather than relying on a gender label. The official collection navigation does not provide a complete current specification sheet for every family.
What is known about price and availability?
ARMBANDUHREN – Das Magazin listed the Carpe Diem chronograph at “ab 3100 Euro”—a starting price of €3,100—in its 2024 article. This is a price published at that time, not a verified current quote. No complete set of current prices or live inventory for the collection families is established by the sources cited here.
The brand’s official site includes sections for watches, straps, service, restoration, and seminars. ZEITGEFÜHL describes a two-day seminar in Hamburg where participants disassemble, reassemble, and finish a watch using a Swiss Unitas 6497 or 6498 movement, with no prior experience required according to that profile.
Before buying, confirm the specific model’s current specification and price with the brand, then verify the seller and the particular offer. No current retailer listing or seller authorization is established here.
