What makes this Senator feel traditional?
The design follows familiar dress-watch cues rather than treating the calendar as a technical display. The 18k red-gold case frames a silver-grainé dial with Roman numerals and a railroad-style chapter ring. Panorama Date, weekday and month windows, a leap-year indication and a moon-phase display add information without replacing the dial’s classical layout.
Time+Tide’s 14 January 2024 hands-on article also noted the hidden calendar-setting pushers and described the finishing and wearability. Its reported 47.6 mm lug-to-lug measurement is a publication-reported figure; Glashütte Original’s current product page does not list that dimension.

What does the perpetual calendar display?
The calendar presents the date through Glashütte Original’s Panorama Date, alongside separate weekday and month indications. It also displays the leap-year cycle, while a moon-phase indication adds a second astronomical complication. This is more information than a simple date watch provides, but the indications remain organized around the dial’s traditional numerals and chapter ring.
Glashütte Original says the mechanism automatically accounts for leap years and requires no manual correction for more than a century. That is the manufacturer’s stated capability; it should not be read as an independently verified test result. As with any mechanical calendar, the owner should follow the manual’s instructions when setting or adjusting it.

What is inside Calibre 36-02?
The automatic Calibre 36-02 is listed with a 100-hour power reserve and a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour. Glashütte Original also specifies a silicon hairspring, a skeletonised rotor with a 21-carat gold oscillation weight, and a Glashütte three-quarter plate with stripe finish. The long reserve can be useful if the watch is taken off for a few days, although a perpetual calendar still needs correct setting if it stops and its indications fall out of sync.

This reference suits someone looking for a complicated mechanical watch with a traditional dress-watch appearance, a precious-metal case and multiple calendar indications. The 42 mm diameter and 12.8 mm height are useful fit considerations, as is the 21 mm strap width.
