The Longines Global Champions Tour (LGCT) is the individual championship; the Global Champions League (GCL) is the team championship. They belong to the same Global Champions circuit, but reward different results. In 2026, both lead to the GC Playoffs, where individual and team titles remain distinct.
How the two competitions differ
The simplest distinction is who the result is for: LGCT competition focuses on individual riders, while GCL competition produces a team result. Global Champions describes LGCT as “The Ultimate Individual Challenge” and identifies GCL as its team championship.

The stage counts are not interchangeable: Global Champions’ 2026 materials list 17 LGCT calendar stages and describe a 16-stage GCL championship. They may refer to different event or competition counts.

Teams and rider selection
Global Champions’ 2026 GCL explainer lists 17 multinational teams. Each team has six athletes, including at least one under-25 rider. For a stage, the team manager selects three riders.

Two rounds, with a cut after Round 1
- Round 1: All teams compete in a CSI5* 1.60m round against the clock.
- Round 2: The 10 teams that place highest in Round 1 advance to a CSI5* 1.55m round, also against the clock.
- Final team classification: Penalties from both rounds count. The combined Round 2 time of the two riders determines the time component of the team result; if teams are tied, the faster Round 2 time breaks the tie.
There are no drop scores, so faults are not discarded. The 2026 format details above are specific to the current season; older guides describe different round sequences or heights.
How GCL connects to the LGCT Grand Prix
The competitions have separate championship objectives, but participation in GCL can also intersect with qualification for the individual LGCT Grand Prix. In the 2026 format announcement, the top 30 individual riders from GCL Round 1 qualify, and a separate day-one class supplies 10 more places, for 40 qualifiers in total. The team result and individual qualification route are related at that event, but they are not the same competition.

What happens at the 2026 finale?
The 2026 season calendar names the GC Playoffs in Riyadh as the destination for the LGCT season. The GCL explainer also identifies the GC Playoffs as the culmination of its championship, including the GCL Super Cup. The shared finale does not merge the titles: LGCT remains the individual contest and GCL the team contest.

The official LGCT page promotes GCTV live and on-demand coverage, tickets, and hospitality packages. It also advertises an annual Live Pass, but subscription terms and event availability can change.
