Google has made its Wear OS Clock app exclusive to Pixel Watch for new installations and updates. On Samsung Galaxy Watch, OnePlus Watch, Mobvoi TicWatch, and other non-Pixel watches, an existing installation can continue to work, but Google says it will no longer receive Play Store updates. If the app is not already installed, it cannot be newly downloaded through the Play Store under the announced policy.
The change affects Google Clock’s alarm, timer, and stopwatch functions. It does not remove every clock feature from non-Pixel watches: manufacturers’ built-in apps and compatible third-party Wear OS apps remain available.

What changed
Google announced the policy on October 30, 2025, in its Wear OS Community forum. The company said watch brands now provide their own default clock applications, so Google Clock would no longer be available for download on Wear OS watches other than Pixel Watch models.

Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →There are three separate outcomes:
| User situation | What happens |
|---|---|
| Pixel Watch owner | Google Clock remains available and receives Play Store updates. |
| Non-Pixel watch with Google Clock already installed | The app can continue to be used, but Google says it will no longer receive Play Store updates. |
| Non-Pixel watch without Google Clock installed | The app is no longer available for a new installation from the Play Store. |
This is not an announcement that Google remotely deleted Clock from every affected watch, nor that alarms, timers, and stopwatches have disappeared from Wear OS altogether.

Which features are affected?
Google’s Wear OS Clock app covers three core functions:
- Alarms
- Timers
- Stopwatches
Depending on the watch and software version, those functions may also appear through watch-face complications, tiles, widgets, hardware buttons, or crown controls. Losing access to future Google Clock updates does not automatically disable those interfaces, but an unmaintained app may eventually have compatibility problems after a Wear OS update, a factory reset, or other system change. Google has not said that the app will stop working on a particular future date.
Phone-to-watch alarm behavior is a separate issue. A Pixel phone paired with a Samsung or OnePlus watch does not guarantee the same alarm synchronization as a Pixel Watch. Whether phone alarms mirror to the watch, which device sounds, and how dismissal works depends on the watch maker, companion app, phone software, and the specific alarm application.

What “no longer supported” means in practice
For an existing non-Pixel installation, the immediate practical result is that Google Clock is frozen. It should not be treated as an app that has already been shut down, but users should not expect:
- Future bug fixes
- New features or design changes
- Compatibility work for later Wear OS releases
- A guarantee that complications, tiles, or layouts will work indefinitely
These are risks of using an abandoned app, not confirmed dates for a failure. The most important precaution is simple: do not uninstall Google Clock casually if it is still installed and important to you. Google’s policy distinguishes existing installations from new downloads. After uninstalling the app, a non-Pixel user may be unable to reinstall it from the Play Store.

- 24/7 HEALTH MONITORING: The Amazfit Bip 6 smartwatch provides precise, real-time monitoring of heart rate, sleep, blood-oxygen and stress, empowering you with actionable insights to optimize your health and fitness.
A factory reset presents a similar risk because it can remove the app. Sideloading an APK is not Google’s documented recovery method and can create security, compatibility, signing, licensing, and update problems.
Why did Google make the change?
Google’s stated explanation is that watch manufacturers now offer their own default clock applications. The company did not publicly say that it was trying to force non-Pixel users to buy a Pixel Watch.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →It is reasonable to view the decision as part of a broader shift in which some first-party Wear OS experiences differentiate Pixel hardware, but that is analysis rather than a confirmed motive. Google made a similar change to its built-in Weather experience: on Wear OS 6 and newer, Pixel Weather is associated with Pixel Watch, while other manufacturers’ watches rely on their own or third-party weather apps. See Google’s Weather announcement and Pixel Weather documentation.
The result is a more fragmented Wear OS experience. Someone with a Pixel phone may still prefer a Samsung or OnePlus watch for its hardware, health features, battery life, or ecosystem integrations. That user can be fully invested in Google’s phone ecosystem while being excluded from Google’s latest watch apps.
Timeline
- September 2025: Reports said Google Clock was disappearing from compatibility listings or becoming unavailable on some Galaxy Watch and OnePlus Watch devices. 9to5Google reported on the early incompatibility findings.
- October 30, 2025: Google formally confirmed the policy in its Wear OS Community announcement.
- November 2025: Coverage highlighted criticism from users who wanted a consistent Google experience between Pixel phones and non-Pixel watches. Android Central described the reaction as backlash, while Android Authority covered the confirmation and its implications.
That distinction matters: early reports suggested compatibility was changing; Google’s later announcement established the official difference between existing installations, new installations, and Pixel Watch support. The available evidence shows online criticism from some users, not a quantified or representative survey of all Wear OS owners.

What affected users should do
- Check whether Google Clock is installed. If it is present and working, avoid removing it before deciding on a replacement.
- Test the manufacturer’s clock tools. Create and dismiss an alarm, run a timer and stopwatch, and check sound, vibration, complications, tiles, and phone notifications.
- Verify synchronization separately. Test whether phone alarms appear on the watch and whether dismissing one device affects the other.
- Look for a Wear OS-compatible alternative. Apps can be installed through the Play Store on the watch, but Google warns that not every Android app is compatible with Wear OS. Google’s Play Help instructions explain the general process.
- Do not treat sideloading as the first fix. An APK may be outdated, incompatible with the watch’s Wear OS version or architecture, improperly signed, or unsafe.
For model-specific behavior, Google directs users to the watch manufacturer. Its Wear OS support page lists manufacturers including Samsung, Mobvoi, OnePlus, Oppo, Xiaomi, Fossil, and Montblanc.
Choosing an alternative
Use the manufacturer’s built-in app
This is usually the most practical replacement. A watch maker’s own alarm, timer, and stopwatch are more likely to be maintained alongside firmware and to support that model’s vibration motor, speaker, crown, buttons, complications, and battery behavior.
The trade-off is inconsistency. Interfaces, phone synchronization, complication support, and available features vary by brand, model, region, and phone. Samsung’s experience may not match OnePlus’s, and neither necessarily behaves like Google Clock.
Install a third-party Wear OS app
A third-party app may be worthwhile if the built-in tool lacks multiple timers, advanced scheduling, persistent complications, custom vibration patterns, or cross-device synchronization. Before installing, check that it explicitly supports the watch and Wear OS version, has a credible recent update history, explains its permissions and privacy practices, and works acceptably offline.
App availability, pricing, subscriptions, advertisements, and compatibility can change, so the Google Play listing should be checked on the watch rather than assumed from a phone-only listing.

Move to Pixel Watch
Pixel Watch is the cleanest choice for someone who specifically wants Google Clock and continued first-party Google watch-app updates. It is not automatically the best value, however. Replacing a capable Galaxy Watch or OnePlus Watch solely to regain alarms, timers, or a stopwatch may make little financial sense.
Consider a Pixel Watch only if continued access to Google’s first-party apps, Pixel integration, health features, battery behavior, phone compatibility, and the broader hardware ecosystem justify the change. Google’s Pixel Watch support hub provides the current device documentation.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Is Google ending all Google apps on non-Pixel watches?
No. This announcement concerns Google Clock’s Wear OS availability and updates. It does not establish that Google is removing every Google app from Samsung, OnePlus, Mobvoi, or other third-party watches. It also does not by itself change the availability of Google Calendar, Assistant, Gemini, Wallet, or other services.
It does signal that Wear OS is becoming less uniform. The Clock decision, alongside the Pixel-specific Weather change, suggests that future first-party features may be more closely tied to Pixel hardware. Whether Google extends that approach to additional apps remains unconfirmed.

Can I reinstall Google Clock after deleting it?
You may not be able to. Google says new installations are unavailable on non-Pixel watches, so avoid uninstalling a working copy unless you have tested a replacement.
Does this affect phone alarms?
Not necessarily. Phone-to-watch alarm synchronization varies by watch maker, companion app, phone software, and alarm app.
Is Google Clock still available on Pixel Watch?
Yes. Google says Pixel Watch models continue to receive the Clock app through Google Play.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →What happens after a factory reset?
A reset can remove an existing installation. Because Google Clock may not be available for a new installation on non-Pixel watches, confirm your replacement first.
Can I sideload Google Clock?
Sideloading is not Google’s documented recovery path and may create security, compatibility, signing, licensing, and update risks.
The Bottom Line
If Google Clock is already on your non-Pixel watch, keep it if its current behavior matters to you—but treat it as unsupported software. Otherwise, try the watch maker’s built-in clock first, then a reputable Wear OS-compatible app. A Pixel Watch is a broader ecosystem decision, not an economical automatic fix for a clock app.
