Gemini for Wear OS has broadly rolled out through the watch’s Play Store, but “global” does not mean every watch or country is included. Google’s stated minimum is Wear OS 4.0 on a selected watch; the model, paired device, language and country still matter. Check your current watch before considering an upgrade.
What rolled out—and when
Google began rolling Gemini out to Wear OS watches on July 9, 2025, following its May 2025 announcement of Gemini across more device types. The rollout was reported as reaching supported watches more widely later that month. Google’s Play Store listing, updated June 24, 2026, continues to describe the app as available on selected devices, languages and countries. That is broad availability, not a guarantee of simultaneous access everywhere.
The watch app is the existing Wear OS assistant app, now listed as Google Gemini on Wear OS (package com.google.android.wearable.assistant). In most cases, you update it on the watch rather than install a separate, unrelated Gemini app. Google announced the broader device expansion in May 2025; its Wear OS announcement dates the watch rollout to July 9, 2025. Reporting on July 23, 2025 described wider availability across supported watches.
Which watches can use Gemini?
Google’s stated platform threshold is Wear OS 4.0 or later, but it specifies selected watches; having the right OS version alone does not establish that every model is eligible. Google named Pixel, Samsung, OPPO, OnePlus and Xiaomi watches among the launch ecosystem. For a particular model, check the manufacturer’s support information and whether the update appears in the watch’s Play Store.

- Operating system: Wear OS 4.0 or later, according to Google’s support requirements.
- Watch model: The watch must be one Google supports; brand or OS version alone is not a guarantee.
- Pairing and account: Google requires a compatible Wear OS watch connected to a compatible device. Use the intended Google account during setup.
- Country and language: The Play Store listing limits availability to selected countries and languages.
Older Pixel and Samsung models and watches from the other named brands were included in wider rollout reporting, but that does not turn the list into a promise for every model or regional variant. Google’s current Play Store listing and support page are the best checks for eligibility.
How to update Gemini on your watch
- Open the Google Play Store on the watch. Menu layout varies by Wear OS version and manufacturer.
- Open Manage apps or the updates area, and look for the existing assistant app, listed as Google Gemini on Wear OS.
- Install the update. If prompted, review and accept the setup or opt-in steps.
- Wait for the watch’s confirmation that Gemini is available, then follow any remaining setup prompts.
- If it does not appear immediately, restart the watch and check the watch Play Store again later.
Google’s setup guidance covers requirements, while rollout reporting from July 10, 2025 documented the update arriving through the existing watch app. The phone’s Play Store may not show the same update path, so check directly on the watch.

If Gemini or its update is missing
- Check that the watch runs Wear OS 4 or later, then verify that your exact model is supported.
- Make sure the watch is paired with a compatible device and that setup is using the Google account you intend to use.
- Connect the watch to Wi-Fi or ensure the paired phone has internet access. Google says internet access and setup may be required.
- Check for pending watch system and Google Play services updates, then restart the watch.
- Confirm that your country and language are supported. A listing or app update does not necessarily mean the feature is enabled for every account at once.
- If all checks pass, allow time for staged availability and check the watch Play Store again.
Google notes that some features may be unavailable over LTE, so an LTE watch does not guarantee the same experience as a watch connected through a phone or Wi-Fi. See Google’s connectivity and availability guidance and the Play Store listing.
How to open Gemini
Once setup is complete, launch Gemini by saying “Hey Google,” pressing and holding the watch’s side button, or tapping the Gemini app icon. A Gemini Tile or watch-face complication may also be available. Their placement and availability can differ by watch brand, launcher and Wear OS version. Google lists the main launch methods in its Wear OS announcement; July 2025 coverage also describes watch entry points.

What Gemini can do from a watch
Google’s examples include asking questions, sending messages, interacting with connected apps, summarizing received messages, translating a reply before sending, controlling music and recalling details such as where you parked. These are assistant tasks that can depend on your account, connected apps and internet access—not evidence that the watch runs Gemini entirely offline. The available actions can vary with the watch and setup.
Google describes these capabilities in its Play Store listing and its broader Gemini-device announcement. Treat generated answers as suggestions to check, especially when the result matters.

What happens to Google Assistant?
After you opt in, Gemini becomes the primary assistant on the watch. Google says some Google Assistant voice features are not yet available through Gemini, so do not assume every old command works the same way. Google’s listing and support page provide a route to switch between Gemini and Google Assistant on supported watches if you prefer the previous assistant.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Gemini on Wear OS is not the same as newer platform features
The basic Gemini assistant rollout should not be confused with features introduced alongside later Wear OS versions. Google said Wear OS 6 would bring additional integrations with manufacturers’ own apps. Its Wear OS 7 announcement described newer Gemini capabilities, including multi-step app automation and deeper Android-device integration. Those platform developments should not be assumed on every watch that received the original Gemini update.

Should you buy a watch just to get Gemini?
If you already own a supported Wear OS 4-or-newer watch, check its Play Store before buying anything. A new watch may make sense for newer platform features, hardware or ecosystem preferences, but Gemini alone is not a sound reason to replace a compatible watch.
For prospective buyers, Pixel Watch 4 may suit people invested in Pixel phones and Google services; Samsung’s Galaxy Watch8 family may better suit Samsung phone owners or those who prefer Samsung’s hardware and health ecosystem. Model support and integrations can vary, so confirm the exact watch rather than relying on brand alone. Optional Google Health Premium coaching built with Gemini is separate from the basic Wear OS assistant; Google does not list a separate subscription as a prerequisite for that assistant.
