The Grand Seiko SBGW297 and SBGW299 are closely matched manual-winding 44GS watches; the main difference is the dial. The SBGW297 has a white, fan-like dial with a blue steel seconds hand, while the SBGW299 has a dark-blue dial with a radiating pattern. Grand Seiko’s product pages do not identify either watch or dial as “Kamisen,” so that wording is not verified official nomenclature.

These are Heritage Collection watches built around the modern 44GS design. For a buyer choosing between them, the dial color and the SBGW297’s blue seconds hand are the meaningful distinctions; the listed core dimensions and movement are shared. See Grand Seiko’s SBGW297 product page and SBGW299 product page for each reference’s official details.
What “Kamisen” means here
Grand Seiko describes the dials as radiating and fan-like, and connects the design to folding fans. Its official product descriptions and 44GS collection history do not establish “Kamisen” as the official model name, dial name, or collection name. Treat it as wording used in the title or elsewhere, not as confirmed Grand Seiko terminology.
The 44GS originated in 1967 and, according to Grand Seiko, fully embodied Grand Seiko Style. The brand describes that style through straight lines and flat surfaces associated with traditional objects such as sliding doors, folding screens, and folding fans. The fan reference helps explain the dial’s radiating pattern, but does not establish “Kamisen” as its formal name. Grand Seiko’s 44GS history provides the collection context.

Movement, winding and accuracy
Both watches use the hand-wound Caliber 9S64. Grand Seiko specifies an approximately 72-hour power reserve, so the movement can run for about three days after a full wind under the brand’s stated specification. The published figure is approximate, not a promise of an exact running time in every condition.
Grand Seiko gives two accuracy figures that describe different conditions. The caliber’s controlled mean daily rate is +5 to -3 seconds per day; the stated accuracy in normal use is +10 to -1 seconds per day. The controlled mean is not a guarantee of the watch’s day-to-day result on a wearer’s wrist. Grand Seiko notes that actual accuracy varies with use and conditions. Its Caliber 9S64 reference explains the movement specifications.
Case size, fit and water resistance
At 36.5 mm across and 42.7 mm from lug to lug, each watch has a compact listed footprint; both are 11.6 mm thick. Those shared measurements make case size a poor reason to choose one reference over the other. Wrist shape, strap adjustment and personal preference still affect fit.
