What is the Grand Seiko SBGE305?
The SBGE305 is a Sport Collection Spring Drive GMT and a 9R Spring Drive 20th Anniversary Limited Edition. Grand Seiko announced it on February 5, 2024, with availability scheduled to begin in June 2024. Production was limited to 1,300 pieces. Grand Seiko’s launch announcement presents it as a celebration of Caliber 9R, the Spring Drive movement family introduced 20 years earlier.

What does the dial and bezel represent?
Grand Seiko says the dark red dial evokes a summer sunrise over the steep Hotaka mountain landscape, while the black ceramic bezel references rugged mountain rock. Those are the manufacturer’s design inspirations; the practical contrast is a red dial set against a black bezel and stainless-steel case and bracelet. How does the SBGE305’s GMT work?
The 9R66 movement provides a GMT/24-hour hand alongside the local time display. Grand Seiko describes the local hour hand as independently adjustable forward or backward while the watch is running. That lets a traveler change the displayed local hour for a new time zone without stopping the watch, while the GMT hand continues to indicate a second time zone. The watch also displays the date and has a power-reserve indicator. Grand Seiko’s announcement explains the local-hour adjustment.

How much did the SBGE305 cost, and is it still available?
Grand Seiko gave an approximate U.S. retail price of $6,200 when it announced the watch in February 2024. That is the launch-era U.S. figure, not a current quote. The official U.S. boutique page currently labels the SBGE305 “No Longer Available.” A Hong Kong boutique listing displays HK$47,800, a different regional listing and time context; it should not be treated as a directly comparable current U.S. price. These listings do not establish the watch’s present resale value.
If considering a pre-owned or remaining-stock example, verify the seller, condition, included papers, service history, applicable warranty and return policy. Grand Seiko’s U.S. availability status is shown on its official boutique page; the launch price and original distribution information are in its 2024 release. How does it fit among Grand Seiko GMTs?
The SBGE305’s useful comparison points are its 40.5 mm diameter, 14.7 mm thickness, ceramic bezel, 20-bar water resistance and 9R66 movement with approximately 72 hours of reserve. Grand Seiko’s SBGE255 is another Sport Collection GMT whose official page describes a ceramic bezel and 20-bar water resistance. The SBGE307 is also described as an automatic Spring Drive 3-Day GMT, with a stated 72-hour reserve and ±15 seconds per month accuracy.
Those pages offer context, not a complete head-to-head specification comparison. For a purchase decision, compare the exact reference’s dimensions, dial and bezel, GMT operation, production status and current seller terms rather than assuming shared collection names mean identical specifications.
