Its tribute is specific: a blue dial with a pattern commemorating 2020, a vivid red seconds hand, a gold five-point star at six o’clock, and Caliber 9F85 with a time-zone adjustment that moves the hour hand without stopping the seconds hand. Grand Seiko announced a limited run of 2,500 pieces.
What the SBGP007 commemorates
Grand Seiko introduced the SBGP007 among four blue-dial watches for its 60th anniversary. In its January 30, 2020 announcement, the brand described the four designs as expressing different aspects of its expertise; the SBGP007 was one of two anniversary quartz models using the new Caliber 9F85. The Heritage Collection model page identifies the SBGP007 as a limited edition of 2,500.

The blue dial’s pattern is described by Grand Seiko as a “2020 pattern.” The red seconds hand adds a sharp contrast against the dial. A five-point gold star at six o’clock signals the specially adjusted movement described in the launch announcement. These are the concrete design and technical details behind the watch’s anniversary tribute; whether the overall look is stunning is a matter of taste.
How its design reflects Grand Seiko’s stated intentions
Grand Seiko said the SBGP007’s thin bezel was intended to leave room for a wider, more legible dial. It also described the sharply curved side of the case as a way to reflect more light and express what the brand calls its “sparkle of quality.” Those are the manufacturer’s design aims, not a guarantee that every wearer will find the dial easier to read or the case more attractive.

- Date display
- Screw-down crown
- 40mm Diameter

The case back is stainless steel with an 18k yellow-gold plate. Other listed details include a screw case back, sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective coating on its inner surface, and a folding clasp with push-button release.
Caliber 9F85 and the time-zone adjustment
The SBGP007 uses Grand Seiko Caliber 9F85, a quartz movement with a time-difference adjustment function. Grand Seiko says the wearer can adjust the hour hand without stopping the seconds hand, preserving the seconds display while changing time zones. The launch specification lists nine jewels.
Rank #2
- Three-fold clasp with push button release
- Dual-curved sapphire crystal
- Power reserve display on the back
- Power resrve Approx. 72 hours(3 days)
The five-point star at six o’clock is the dial’s indication of the specially adjusted movement cited in the anniversary launch materials. It is a visible design cue tied to the watch’s movement, rather than merely a decorative anniversary emblem.
Accuracy: Grand Seiko’s published figures conflict
The available official specifications do not give one consistent annual accuracy figure for the SBGP007:

- 24-hour hand (dual time display function)
- Power Reserve Approx. 55 hours
- See-through case back
- ±5 seconds per year: Grand Seiko’s January 2020 launch announcement gives this figure for the specially adjusted version, at temperatures between 5°C and 35°C. The official US boutique description also uses ±5 seconds per year.
- ±10 seconds per year: Grand Seiko’s current UK model specification table lists this figure.
The cited pages do not explain whether the UK figure reflects a general 9F85 specification, a correction, or an inconsistency between regional pages. Neither figure is an independent test result; they are manufacturer-published claims. For the claimed ±5-second figure, the stated temperature range is part of the qualification.

Release and availability context
Grand Seiko announced the SBGP007 for availability in March 2020 as a limited edition of 2,500. The launch announcement gave an approximate European recommended retail price of €3,900; that is a historical launch figure, not a current valuation. The current Grand Seiko UK page displays GBP 3,350, but a listed price does not establish current stock or the price of a completed transaction. The official US boutique page labels its listing “no longer available”; that does not establish whether pre-owned examples are available elsewhere.
The SBGP015 is identified in the launch announcement as a companion Sport Collection quartz limited edition. The available information here does not establish enough specifications for a reliable model-to-model comparison.
