The Zenith × SJX Chronomaster Revival “Poker Chip” is a 2021, 200-piece reinterpretation of the 1969 El Primero G383. It preserves the original’s segmented-dial idea but recasts it in charcoal, black and luminous material, inside a 38 mm microblasted titanium case. Zenith listed the launch price at CHF 9,900.
What is the Zenith Poker Chip?
“Poker Chip” is the collectors’ nickname for the rare 1969 El Primero G383, whose bold, alternating dial sectors suggested the markings on a poker chip. Zenith and SJX brought that design idea into a modern Chronomaster Revival collaboration announced on November 15, 2021. Zenith described the G383 as one of the rarest and most sought-after early El Primero variants. Zenith’s announcement says SJX founder Su Jiaxian proposed the revival to Zenith’s Director of Product & Heritage, Romain Marietta, in May 2020.
The intent was reinterpretation rather than a literal vintage remake. SJX said he wanted a design recognizable as the G383 yet “unmistakably novel and different.” The original’s colorful sectoring becomes dark grey and matte black, with luminous surfaces supplying a distinct modern character.
How the dial and case reinterpret the G383
The 38 mm case recalls the size associated with the El Primero A386, but is made of microblasted titanium with a finely grained dark-grey finish. On the dial, luminous sectors sit alongside matte-black printed segments. Super-LumiNova also appears on the markers and chronograph scales, while radial luminous patterns surround the subdials. The result is a monochrome take on the old segmented layout, with light-emitting material doing much of the visual work.
