The Grand Seiko SBGW323 is a hand-wound 44GS-style watch with a 36.5 mm stainless-steel case and a purple dial inspired by the kiri flower. Grand Seiko classifies it in the Heritage Collection on its US product page, not the Elegance Collection. Its defining combination is a pressed Mt. Iwate dial pattern, the 9S64 mechanical movement and a stated power reserve of about 72 hours.
What is the Grand Seiko SBGW323 Kiri?
SBGW323 is Grand Seiko’s modernized interpretation of its 44GS design. The brand says the purple dial takes its color inspiration from kiri, Iwate Prefecture’s official flower, and pairs it with a pressed pattern representing the ridges of Mt. Iwate. The result is a dress-oriented design in a relatively compact steel case, with a manually wound movement rather than an automatic one.

How large is the SBGW323 on the wrist?
The case measures 36.5 mm across, 42.7 mm from lug to lug and 11.6 mm thick. Diameter alone does not describe how a watch wears: lug-to-lug length helps indicate how far it spans across the wrist, while thickness gives a sense of its height. Grand Seiko publishes these dimensions, but they are not a substitute for trying the watch on; wrist shape and personal fit preference matter.
The stated 18 mm band width describes the band measurement, not confirmed compatibility with every aftermarket strap, bracelet, clasp or replacement part. Check the exact attachment and fit before buying accessories.

What movement is in the SBGW323, and how accurate is it?
The SBGW323 uses Grand Seiko caliber 9S64, a 24-jewel, manually wound mechanical movement. Grand Seiko lists an approximate 72-hour power reserve—about three days—and says: “The manually wound mechanical movement features a maximum continuous power reserve of 72 hours (about three days).”
Grand Seiko publishes two accuracy figures that describe different conditions:

- Mean daily rate: +5 to -3 seconds per day. This is measured by Grand Seiko under controlled conditions before the movement is fitted into the case.
- Normal-usage accuracy: +10 to -1 seconds per day. This is the manufacturer’s stated range for use outside that controlled measurement.
These are Grand Seiko specifications, not independent test results or a guarantee that an individual watch will keep exactly the same rate in every wearer’s conditions.

Grand Seiko lists water resistance at 10 bar and magnetic resistance at 4,800 A/m. These are the manufacturer’s ratings; the figures alone do not establish suitability for every activity or exposure. Follow Grand Seiko’s care guidance for the watch and have its condition checked as appropriate, particularly if it has been damaged or serviced.
