Its standout practical feature is the 9F86’s independently adjustable local-hour hand, which Grand Seiko says can be changed without stopping the watch. The main caveat in its published specification is accuracy: the product page claims both ±5 and ±10 seconds per year in different places. That inconsistency is worth understanding before weighing the watch against its price and availability, neither of which can be established as current from the available information.
What is the SBGN007?
Introduced in 2018, the SBGN007 is a limited-edition Grand Seiko GMT powered by the 9F86 quartz caliber. Grand Seiko made 1,200 pieces to mark the 25th anniversary of its 9F quartz caliber. The watch has a green dial and a 24-hour hand for displaying a second time zone.
The movement is the model’s defining feature. Grand Seiko describes the 9F86 as combining quartz timekeeping with a separately adjustable local-hour hand: when you arrive in a new time zone, you can move the hour hand to local time without stopping the watch. The company’s 2018 announcement described the GMT hand as mounted on an independent axis and discussed design changes made to accommodate it. These are manufacturer descriptions, not independent performance tests.

These are the figures and descriptions on Grand Seiko’s SBGN007 product page, accessed in 2026. A 20 mm band width gives a useful starting point for strap shopping, but it does not by itself establish that every aftermarket strap will fit the watch’s attachment style.

How accurate is the SBGN007?
Grand Seiko’s published figures do not agree. The product-page feature copy says the special-adjustment movement is enhanced to ±5 seconds per year, while the specification table lists accuracy as ±10 seconds per year. Grand Seiko’s caliber-history page also assigns ±5 seconds per year to the SBGN007.
Both figures should be reported rather than choosing one and presenting it as uncontested. The available manufacturer information does not explain the discrepancy or establish which figure should be treated as the definitive specification. They are manufacturer-stated accuracy figures, not results from an independent test of an individual watch.

How the 9F86 GMT works for travel
The useful distinction is between changing local time and stopping or resetting the watch. With the 9F86, the local hour hand can be adjusted independently, allowing the wearer to move the displayed local time while the watch continues running. The 24-hour hand provides the second-time-zone display. Grand Seiko also lists calendar-linked time-difference adjustment among the functions.
This arrangement is aimed at travelers who want to update local time without interrupting the watch’s timekeeping. Grand Seiko called the 9F86 “the perfect calibre for the international traveler” in its 2018 announcement; that is the manufacturer’s promotional description, not an independent comparative verdict.

How might the SBGN007 wear?
The case measures 40.0 mm across, 47.0 mm from lug to lug, and 12.2 mm thick. Those dimensions and the 20 mm band width are more useful for assessing likely fit than diameter alone. The listed weight is 150 g, but Grand Seiko’s specification does not establish how that weight feels on different wrists or with different bands.
There is not enough verified hands-on evidence here to make a reliable claim about comfort, bracelet feel, finishing in use, or real-world legibility. Consider the measurements a fit reference rather than a substitute for trying the watch on.

Is the Grand Seiko SBGN007 worth buying?
On its documented merits, the SBGN007 is a distinctive, limited-edition take on a travel GMT: it pairs a green dial and 24-hour second-time-zone display with a quartz caliber whose independently adjustable local-hour hand is designed to make time-zone changes straightforward. Its published case measurements and functional specifications are clearly stated.
The unresolved accuracy discrepancy complicates one of the key purchase comparisons, and the available information does not establish current availability or a dependable present-day price. A EUR 3,300 listing surfaced on a Spanish Grand Seiko page, but it is regional and does not establish a current universal price or market value. Without a verified current asking price and a wrist test, whether it is worth buying depends on the specific offer and fit rather than a defensible general value verdict.
