The H. Moser & Cie. Pioneer Flying Hours in steel, reference 3240-1200, replaces conventional hands with three rotating hour discs that orbit a central minutes disc. At each new hour, the displayed numeral jumps instantaneously into view. The manufacturer lists the 42.8 mm steel watch at CHF 29,000 excluding VAT; its official specifications also include 12 ATM water resistance and a 72-hour power reserve.
How the Pioneer Flying Hours tells time
There are no conventional hour or minute hands. Instead, the display uses four discs: three carry hour numerals and rotate on their own axes around a central disc that shows the minutes. H. Moser & Cie. says an in-house spring innovation makes the passing hour jump crisply into view as the previous numeral fades away. The maker describes the numerals as jumping every hour on its official product page.
In Monochrome Watches’ January 2026 account, the change happens instantaneously on the hour, unlike the gradual transition in the earlier Endeavour Flying Hours. At any given moment, one aperture shows the current hour while the other two remain blank. That is the intended layout, not a missing numeral or a malfunction: the display relies on the three-disc arrangement to bring the active hour into view as the discs move.
What is confirmed about the steel reference
H. Moser & Cie. identifies the white-fumé steel model as reference 3240-1200. The manufacturer’s product page lists these core specifications and a price of CHF 29,000 excluding VAT. The price is a displayed listing, not a guarantee of local stock or a final tax-inclusive transaction price.

Monochrome also reports that the HMC 240 measures 32 mm by 7.8 mm, beats at 21,600 vibrations per hour (3 Hz), has 35 jewels and bi-directional winding, and uses a tungsten rotor and a Straumann hairspring with a flat overcoil. These finer movement details are reported by Monochrome rather than listed among the manufacturer’s core product-page specifications.
What the published hands-on account describes
Monochrome describes a white-fumé dial that darkens toward the edge, shaped apertures for the hour discs and a central skeletonised minutes disc. Its account notes the absence of a logo on the dial, sculpted lugs, recessed fluted sections in the mid-case, and alternating brushed and polished surfaces. It also reports a screw-down crown and sapphire caseback.

Those visual, construction and wearing descriptions are Monochrome Watches’ observations, not independent physical impressions from this article. The 42.8 mm diameter comes from the manufacturer; the 14.2 mm total thickness, including the high-domed crystal, is reported by Monochrome. No lug-to-lug measurement or wrist-size test is provided in the consulted accounts, so those figures alone do not establish how the watch will fit a particular wrist.
How it differs from the Endeavour Flying Hours
Monochrome says H. Moser & Cie. introduced the Endeavour Flying Hours in 2018, followed by blue Super-LumiNova and Cosmic Green editions in 2019. The Pioneer carries the wandering-hours concept into the sportier Pioneer collection and changes the hour transition: the earlier Endeavour version moved gradually, while this Pioneer makes an instantaneous jump, according to Monochrome’s comparison.

Steel model versus the aventurine edition
The white-fumé steel watch is the permanent-collection reference 3240-1200, not a 100-piece limited edition. H. Moser & Cie. also lists an aventurine sibling. The manufacturer’s French product page and Monochrome describe that separate model as limited to 100 pieces, with a red-gold case and black DLC-coated titanium elements. Monochrome reports its price at CHF 39,000 excluding taxes.
