“Hamilton Review” most plausibly refers to the Hamilton Review of Books (HRB), an independent literary journal based in Hamilton, Ontario. It announced that it would stop publishing at the end of 2025; its website is intended to remain available as an archive. This is a book publication, not a watch review or watch-ranking service.
What was Hamilton Review of Books?
Founded in 2016, HRB published writing about books, including reviews, essays, interviews and features. Its editorial focus included books from professional presses, with particular attention to smaller independent publishers. It also considered self-published work when the author was a member in good standing of The Writers’ Union of Canada. HRB’s Our Story page describes the journal’s original mission and scope.
Is Hamilton Review of Books still publishing?
No. On November 27, 2025, founding publisher and editor-in-chief Dana Hansen announced that HRB would cease publication at the end of that year. Hansen attributed the decision to a shortage of money and time, and described the difficulty of sustaining the publication. The announcement said the website would remain “for the foreseeable future” as an archive. Read Hansen’s November 27, 2025 closing announcement.
What can you find in the archive?
The archive includes fiction, nonfiction and poetry reviews, along with roundups, reading recommendations and a bestsellers section. Hansen’s closing essay also describes HRB’s published interviews, essays, excerpts, columns and podcast episodes, which readers could access at no cost. The Hamilton Review of Books website is the place to browse the available material.
