The MONTA Oceanking’s “between Seiko and Tudor” positioning belongs to a 2020 comparison, not a current price ladder. MONTA’s current blue-dial listing shows a $2,550 price and 300-metre water resistance, but it was marked sold out when accessed in 2026. The listing’s dollar symbol does not, by itself, establish a market or currency for a like-for-like comparison.
What the 2020 comparison meant
In a hands-on article published by Time+Tide on 17 April 2020, Bruce Duguay described the Oceanking as costing just over A$3,000 and positioned it above ordinary Seiko divers but below offerings from Tudor and Omega. That was a snapshot of the market and pricing at the time, not a claim that the Oceanking remains between those brands at today’s prices.
The distinction matters because watch prices vary by model, market, currency, retailer and date. The available evidence does not establish a current Seiko diver and price that can be fairly set beside MONTA’s current listing. Treat the 2020 framing as historical context, not a present-day buying guide.
Current blue-dial Oceanking specifications

Do not mix Oceanking generations
Oceanking specifications have changed. In particular, a frequently cited Hodinkee hands-on review from 4 April 2018 covered a second-generation watch, not the current listing. Its figures should not be carried over to the blue-dial model described above.

The 2018 review also reports a date at six o’clock on its reviewed watch. That is a historical-generation detail; consult the listing for the exact variant you are considering rather than assuming every Oceanking shares the same configuration.
Is it a current alternative to Seiko or Tudor?
Not on the evidence available for a direct, current price comparison. A fair comparison needs diver watches in the same market and currency, priced on the same date, with their size, thickness, movement, power reserve, water resistance, bezel, bracelet adjustment, warranty and service arrangements considered together. It should also distinguish a manufacturer’s list price from a retailer’s street price and account for whether the watch is sold direct or through a retailer.

The available Tudor reference illustrates why brand-level comparisons can mislead: Tudor’s official page lists a 41 mm 1926 with a smooth bezel and 100 m water resistance, at a regional suggested retail price of €2,430 that is subject to change. It is not a like-for-like dive-watch equivalent to the Oceanking. A current Seiko diver reference and matching price are not established here, so the original Seiko-to-Tudor ladder cannot responsibly be updated with an invented comparison.
For a purchase decision, start with the exact Oceanking generation and variant, confirm current stock and price with MONTA, and then compare it with specific diver models available in your market. The 2020 article offers useful historical positioning, but it does not settle whether today’s Oceanking is worth its current asking price for your priorities.

What the evidence says about the hands-on assessment
MONTA’s March 10, 2025 editorial page summarizes WatchChris’s hands-on review of a newer Oceanking, including observations about ergonomics, bezel and finishing. Those are the reviewer’s observations as relayed by the manufacturer, not independent findings from the 2020 Time+Tide article or from this article. They should not be mistaken for a fresh hands-on assessment of the current listing.
