Christopher Ward has returned its JJ01 mechanical jump-hour module to the C1 collection in the 39mm C1 Jump Hour Mk V. Instead of showing the hour with a conventional hand, the watch displays it as a numeral through an aperture; the numeral advances when the minute hand passes twelve. The maker’s handbook specifies a Sellita SW200-1 movement with the JJ01 module, a 38–41-hour power reserve and 30m water resistance.

What is a jump-hour watch?

A jump-hour watch shows the hour as a numeral in a window rather than pointing to it with an hour hand. On the C1 Jump Hour Mk V, the hour disc changes in a discrete jump as the minute hand passes twelve. The minute hand remains an ordinary analogue display, so the time is read by combining its position with the numeral in the aperture.

This arrangement gives the dial a different character from a conventional three-hand watch: the hour is presented digitally, while the minutes are read around the dial. The Mk V’s display is built into a layered dial rather than printed as a standard hour-hand layout.

How does the JJ01 jump hour work?

The JJ01 is a mechanical module paired with a Sellita SW200-1, according to Christopher Ward’s owner’s handbook. When the minute hand completes its circuit and passes twelve, the module advances the hour disc by one numeral.

For setting, the handbook instructs owners to pull the crown to position two and turn it to move the minute hand. It recommends moving past the desired minute and then setting backwards for precision. When the watch is set backwards, a safety feature may delay the first hour jump; the disc should advance normally at the next pass of the minute hand through twelve. Push the crown flush against the case afterward to maintain water resistance.

What are the C1 Jump Hour Mk V’s specifications?

These are the manufacturer’s specifications, not independent test results. The handbook describes an applied sapphire dial with a stamped azuré base pattern, a multi-faceted ring and a stepped sapphire hand. Super-LumiNova C1 BL Grade X1 and a lower Globolight block on the hour disc are also listed.

How big is the C1 Jump Hour Mk V?

The case measures 39mm across, 14mm high and 47.30mm from lug to lug. Diameter is only one part of fit: the lug-to-lug measurement describes the case’s span across the wrist, while the 14mm height gives an indication of how much it stands above it. Check those dimensions against a watch you already find comfortable, especially if wrist coverage or height under a cuff is a concern.

Is the C1 Jump Hour Mk V water resistant?

Christopher Ward rates it at 3 ATM (30m). That is the stated rating, not a guarantee that it is suitable for swimming or other water activities. The handbook also says the crown should sit flush against the case to maintain water resistance.

What stands out about the Mk V?

The watch’s defining choice is its display: a jumping numeral replaces the conventional hour hand, while the minute hand remains analogue. Its 39mm diameter is paired with a 47.30mm lug-to-lug span and 14mm height, so the full case dimensions—not diameter alone—matter when judging fit. The leather and bracelet versions offer different wearing preferences, while the maker’s 30m rating is a modest water-resistance specification rather than an invitation to assume swimming use.
