Its design has drawn praise, but “the world’s most beautiful diver” is a matter of taste—not an objective ranking. The key practical question is whether its 53 mm lug-to-lug span and glossy, polished look suit you.
What is the Ocean7 LM-5?
Ocean7 currently lists the LM-5 Dress Diver with an automatic movement and date, and the LM-5 GMT Dress Diver with automatic GMT and date complications. The manufacturer lists the standard model at $950 and the GMT at $1,200; these are prices observed on Ocean7’s product listings in 2026, and both price and availability can change. The historical version discussed below is not necessarily identical to either current configuration.

How the size and design may wear
Check the 53 mm lug-to-lug span
The 42 mm case is not the whole fit story: the 53 mm lug-to-lug measurement describes the distance the watch spans across the wrist. Compare that figure with a watch you already find comfortable, and consider the case shape and strap as well as diameter. At 113 g on the supplied strap, the listed weight also makes this a substantial watch rather than a particularly light diver.
Sapphire and polish define the look
The sapphire crystal and sapphire bezel are central to the LM-5’s appearance. Ocean7 specifies an inner anti-reflective coating on the domed crystal, while the polished steel case and glossy presentation contribute to a dressier take on a diver. These choices are aesthetic as well as material distinctions; the specifications alone do not establish scratch performance or overall durability in use.

What the 2011 hands-on review found
Fratello’s Robert-Jan Broer reviewed an earlier LM-5 configuration on November 30, 2011. He described a 42 mm polished steel case about 13 mm thick, 20 atm / 600 ft water resistance, 22 mm lug spacing, and an automatic movement he identified as an ETA 2824-2. He also reported a historical price of $899 and an optional COSC movement. Those details describe the model and options he encountered then; they should not be substituted for the current listings’ specifications or prices.
Broer praised the visual detailing, luminous sapphire bezel insert, dial legibility, crown finishing, and firm unidirectional bezel clicks, noting little bezel play. He also observed reflections from the inner anti-reflective coating when it interacted with the glossy dial; he said this mainly bothered him while photographing the watch. These are his dated impressions, not findings from a current hands-on test.

- Stainless steel case 40mm diameter x 14mm thick; Exhibition case back; Black dial; Luminous hands and hour markers
- NH35A Japanese Automatic movement, 24 jewel; Assembled in Malaysia; Watch weight: 155 grams
- Stainless steel band, 210mm L x 20mm W; Band is adjustable by adding/removing links; Fold over safety clasp
- Mineral crystal; Screw-down crown; Diver stainless steel bezel with black top bezel ring; 200 meter water resistant: Suitable for professional marine activity and surface water sports. Suitable for diving.
Broer summed up the subjective nature of the title’s claim: “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder”. His positive verdict was that the watch offered value for money at the time he reviewed it, but that opinion applies to the earlier version and its 2011 price—not today’s models or prices.
Strap options and compatibility
Both current listings specify 22 mm lugs and a supplied polyurethane strap, with a German Milanese mesh bracelet presented as a selectable option. Broer’s 2011 review discussed other strap choices and said he personally preferred mesh or an alligator-style strap to the strap on the watch he handled. Before buying an aftermarket 22 mm watch strap, check the end shape, spring-bar fit, and buckle or clasp compatibility; lug width alone does not guarantee a clean fit. Confirm the bracelet or strap included in the exact current product configuration before ordering.

Which LM-5 should you consider?
- Choose the Dress Diver if: you want the listed automatic date configuration and do not need a GMT complication.
- Consider the GMT Dress Diver if: a GMT hand is useful to you and the higher listed price fits your budget.
- Reconsider the fit if: a 53 mm lug-to-lug watch is likely to overhang your wrist or feel too broad.
- Compare alternatives by: case width and lug-to-lug length, stated water resistance, crystal and bezel materials, movement and complications, and strap compatibility. The available specifications do not support a claim that the LM-5 outperforms other divers.
Water resistance: what the 200 m rating does—and does not—say
Ocean7 lists 200 m (650 ft) water resistance and a screw-down crown for the current configurations. That is the manufacturer’s stated rating, not independent confirmation of real-world dive performance. The 2011 review reported a different figure—20 atm / 600 ft—for the earlier version, another reason to distinguish the historical watch from the current listing. If you intend to use a watch in water, rely on the specific model’s current manufacturer guidance and a suitable service or pressure test rather than treating a published rating as proof that an individual watch remains watertight.
