Its central change is visual: it replaces the black dial associated with the film-linked Murph with a textured, lighter face, while keeping the 38 mm model’s H-10 movement and 80-hour power reserve. Hodinkee’s TanTan Wang found the watch wore larger than its dimensions suggested and praised the dial texture; Wang also reported that the supplied strap was very stiff.
What the white-dial Murph is
Hamilton’s reference H70405710 is the 38 mm white-dial Khaki Field Murph Automatic. Hamilton calls the dial “antique white” and describes its grained finish as a backdrop for the cathedral-shaped hands. The technical specification field labels its color simply “White.” The case is stainless steel, and the watch is supplied on a black calf-leather strap with a pin buckle.
This is distinct from both the original 42 mm black-dial Murph and the black-dial 38 mm Murph. The white dial changes the watch’s character without making it a different movement or case-size proposition.
How it wears, according to the hands-on review
In Hodinkee’s September 19, 2024 hands-on article, TanTan Wang reported that the 38 mm Murph wore larger than its dimensions might suggest. Wang cited a 44.7 mm lug-to-lug measurement alongside the 38 mm diameter and 11.1 mm thickness. That is Wang’s wrist impression, not a universal fit guarantee; wrist shape and preference affect how a watch sits.

Wang regarded the grained white dial as a meaningful distinction from the black-dial version, rather than a color change alone. The texture gives the face visual interest while the cathedral hands preserve the vintage-leaning design language Hamilton highlights.

Strap comfort and replacement options
Wang described the black strap as embossed with a crocodile-scale pattern and “extremely stiff and almost impossible to break in.” That is one reviewer’s experience rather than a guarantee of how every strap will feel over time. Wang suggested changing straps as a straightforward option for owners who already have alternatives.
Hamilton lists a 20 mm lug width for H70405710. A replacement must match the lug width and attachment arrangement; check those dimensions and the strap’s fit before buying. The listed 18 mm figure is the buckle width, not the lug width.

Hamilton introduced the 38 mm Murph as a smaller version of the 42 mm watch. The white model is therefore best understood as a dial alternative within the 38 mm Murph line, not as the 42 mm original or the bracelet-equipped black-dial variant.

Hodinkee reported a launch-era retail price of $895 in 2024; that historical figure is not the current U.S. listing.

Who should consider the white-dial Murph?
- Choose this version if you want the 38 mm Murph’s automatic H-10 platform but prefer a grained, light-colored dial to black.
- Try it on if fit is uncertain. Wang found it wore larger than expected from its diameter and thickness; that individual impression is useful context, not a substitute for checking it on your wrist.
- Factor in the strap. The watch comes on calf leather, and Wang found the new strap notably stiff. A compatible replacement may be an option if you prefer a different feel.
- Compare references carefully. H70405710 is the white-dial, strap-equipped 38 mm model; do not assume it includes the bracelet discussed for the black-dial 38 mm.
