The Laurent Ferrier Classic Auto Horizon (ref. LCF046.AC.CG1) gives the Classic Auto family a horizon-blue dial and a polished, formal-looking steel case, while using an automatic micro-rotor movement derived from the brand’s Sport Auto. It debuted at Watches and Wonders 2025 and joined the permanent Classic Auto collection. The result is less overtly sporty than its movement lineage might suggest: elegant in its finishing and proportions, but with a practical date, 72-hour power reserve and 30 m water resistance.
What makes the Classic Auto Horizon new
The Horizon is a new dial and collection expression within Laurent Ferrier’s Classic Auto line, rather than a wholesale change in the model’s design language. Its 40 mm polished stainless-steel case, date at three o’clock and small seconds at six retain the family’s restrained, traditional layout. The distinguishing feature is the translucent blue lacquer over a silver galvanic dial base, whose layered finish shifts in appearance with the light.

PIERRE RICHARDSON Men’s Luxury Watch – Japanese Quartz Movement, Stainless Steel, 41mm, 5ATM... | $199.99 | Buy on Amazon |
Laurent Ferrier introduced the watch at Watches and Wonders in 2025 and placed it in the permanent Classic Auto collection. That positioning differs from the earlier Classic Auto Sandstone, which was a copper-toned limited Série Atelier release. The brand describes the Horizon as expanding the family with a blend of horological elegance and modern-day practicality; the formal-versus-casual impression is also how Fratello characterizes its hands-on experience.
How the blue dial is finished
The dial’s color is not simply a flat blue surface. Laurent Ferrier specifies a silver galvanic base beneath translucent horizon-blue lacquer. The central field has vertical satin brushing, while the circular minute track has a separate satin finish. These contrasting directions catch light differently, giving the dial visual depth without adding a busier pattern.

White-gold indices and the brand’s Assegai-shaped hour and minute hands complete the display. The date window sits at three, balanced by the small-seconds subdial at six. Fratello’s reviewer notes that the blue changes with the light; that is an observational impression, not a laboratory finding or a promise of a particular color in every environment.
Case dimensions and wearing context
The manufacturer lists a 40 mm diameter and 11.94 mm thickness. Fratello reports a 47.1 mm lug-to-lug measurement, a useful additional reference for comparing how much wrist span the watch may occupy, though it is not part of the official product-page specifications. The polished steel case, domed sapphire crystal and taupe goat-leather strap give the watch a dressier presentation than a conventional brushed sports watch.
- Case: stainless steel, 40 mm diameter and 11.94 mm thick.
- Crystal and back: domed sapphire crystal and sapphire display back.
- Water resistance: 30 m.
- Strap and clasp: taupe goat leather with tone-on-tone Alcantara lining, and a steel pin buckle.
At 30 m water resistance, the specification is modest by sport-watch standards. It supports ordinary exposure only within the maker’s stated rating; it should not be read as a claim that the watch is intended for swimming or diving. The refined leather strap and polished surfaces also reinforce that this is a versatile formal-casual watch, not a purpose-built tool watch.
LF270.01: Sport Auto-derived architecture in a Classic case
The automatic LF270.01 is the technical link to Laurent Ferrier’s Sport Auto: the Horizon uses a movement derived from that model, but places it in a slimmer, more classically styled watch. Its winding system uses a 950-platinum micro-rotor, and its escapement is a Swiss lever. The movement runs at 4 Hz, or 28,800 vibrations per hour, and has a stated 72-hour power reserve.
The manufacturer lists a movement diameter of 31.60 mm and thickness of 4.85 mm. Those dimensions help explain how the movement can support a relatively slim overall profile while retaining automatic winding. The sapphire display back exposes the movement rather than hiding the mechanical construction.
Component and jewel counts differ across the available sources and should not be merged into a false consensus: Laurent Ferrier’s current product page states 213 components and 29 jewels, while Fratello reports 215 components and 31 jewels. The more stable points of comparison are the winding architecture, escapement, frequency and reserve.
How it differs from a conventional sports watch
The Horizon borrows a movement lineage associated with the Sport Auto, but its visible choices are deliberately softer. Polished steel, a blue lacquered dial with two satin finishes, white-gold markers and a taupe leather strap make it read as an elegant everyday watch rather than a rugged sports model. Its 30 m water-resistance rating further distinguishes it from watches designed for regular water use.
That combination is the central appeal: mechanical substance and a long reserve without the overtly sporty case treatment, bracelet or dial layout common to sports watches. Fratello’s description of the watch as a blend of formal and casual is a reviewer’s impression, but it fits the design choices evident in the specifications.
