The MING 17.06 Slate is a 2019 color variant in the 17.06 family, distinguished by a layered dial that pairs luminous sapphire with dark, patterned brass. Fratello reviewer Michael Stockton reported a compact 38 mm steel case and an ETA 2824-2 automatic movement. The specifications and launch details below are those published in Fratello’s December 13, 2019 review, not a current manufacturer confirmation.
What makes the 17.06 Slate distinctive?
The Slate followed the 17.06 Copper, whose recognition with the GPHG 2019 Horological Revelation award formed part of the release context. The Slate’s defining feature is not a new complication but a change in color and dial treatment within that family.
Stockton called the dial “mesmerizing.” Its three-part construction has a sapphire outer ring carrying Super-LumiNova C1 markings and a central brass section. Fratello says the brass was etched into a spiraling checkerboard pattern and then anodized to create its dark slate appearance. A flat sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on both sides covers the dial.
What are the reported specifications?

How does the case and fit come across?
Fratello describes brushed case sides, polished upper surfaces, outward-flowing lugs and a ridged, signed push-pull crown. The case back is secured by six flat-head screws; the review’s specification block calls it screw-down.
Stockton noted that the lugs looked exaggerated in photographs but seemed proportionate in person. His published assessment was: “At 38mm and a very wearable 43.9mm lug to lug, the specs looked good on paper for the MING 17.06 Slate, but there was one concern I had and that related to the outward flowing lugs.” That is one reviewer’s hands-on impression, not a fit guarantee. Fratello also reported that the supplied strap suited wrists from 6.1 to 8.3 inches.

What should you know about the 20 mm strap?
The listed lug width is 20 mm, and the original Jean Rousseau Alcantara strap uses quick-release spring bars. Those details make a 20 mm replacement strap a relevant option, but they do not confirm that every third-party strap will fit or work with the watch.
- Check that the replacement is 20 mm wide at the lugs and compatible with the watch’s spring-bar attachment.
- Confirm strap length for your wrist and whether you want to reuse the original 18 mm buckle or use a different buckle.
What were the original price and production plans?
In its December 2019 review, Fratello reported a CHF 1,250 price, an initial annual production limit of 200 Slate pieces, deliveries scheduled to begin in March 2020, and a two-year warranty. These are launch-era details, not evidence of present stock, resale value, warranty coverage or current service terms. Current availability and pricing are not established here.
