The red-and-black leather-strap edition pairs vintage-inspired details with a sapphire crystal, an ETA C07.611 movement rated for up to 80 hours of power reserve, and a production limit of 1,957 pieces.
What is the Rado Golden Horse 1957 Limited Edition?
Rado introduced the limited edition in 2019 to evoke the Golden Horse and the first collection released under the Rado name in 1957. In its 2019 press release, Rado Switzerland said that collection included the Golden Horse. The modern edition is a tribute, not a specification-for-specification reproduction of a 1957 watch.
The red-and-black leather-strap model covered here is reference 763.3930.4.135 in Rado’s release. Fratello identifies a black-to-maroon leather-strap version as R33930355; those references and variants should not be assumed interchangeable. Anniversary editions also came with different dials and a beads-of-rice bracelet.
On the leather model, the curved dial fades from crimson to black and carries two gold-coloured seahorses, a date display at 3 o’clock, and Rado’s moving anchor emblem. The manufacturer says the anchor symbol, now found on its automatic watches, is true to the original. The reimagining replaces the original’s acrylic glass with sapphire crystal.

How big is the Rado Golden Horse 1957?
Published dimensions differ, so compare the measurement labels as well as the numbers. Rado’s official detail sheet gives 37.0 × 40.6 × 14.3 mm, listed as width × length × height. Fratello gives the R33930355 a 36.5 mm diameter, 40.6 mm lug-to-lug length, and 10.8 mm thickness. The sources do not establish why the height and thickness figures differ; they should not be treated as directly equivalent measurements.
Fratello also lists a 19 mm lug width for R33930355. Its reviewer found the supplied leather strap too long for his wrist and changed it; that is an individual fit observation, not a prediction of how the strap will fit another wearer. For wrist fit, lug-to-lug length and thickness matter alongside nominal diameter.

What movement does it use?
Rado specifies an ETA C07.611 automatic movement with 25 jewels for reference 763.3930.4.135. The brand rates its power reserve at up to 80 hours. Fratello describes the R33930355 as using an ETA C07 automatic with an 80-hour reserve and quickset date. These are published specifications, not independent accuracy or endurance test results.
Is the Rado Golden Horse 1957 water resistant?
Rado specifies 5 bar (50 m) water resistance for the leather edition; Fratello also lists 50 m for R33930355. That rating is a product specification, not a guarantee that every water activity is suitable or that a used watch still meets its original rating. For a pre-owned example, have its condition and water resistance assessed rather than relying on the model’s original specification.

How many were made?
Rado limited the edition to 1,957 pieces, using the wording “ONE OUT OF 1957” in its release. Fratello reports that the watches are not individually numbered, so the production limit should not be read as a promise of a numbered sequence on each watch.
What is the difference between the leather strap and bracelet versions?
The editions vary in reference, dial, and supplied wearing hardware. Rado’s release identifies the red-and-black leather-strap edition as 763.3930.4.135, with a black leather strap and steel pin buckle. Fratello identifies a black-to-maroon leather model as R33930355. Hodinkee’s 2020 hands-on article covers a bracelet variant with a different dial. Do not transfer a price or a detail unique to one variant to another.

| Variant and source | Reported details | Historical launch price |
|---|---|---|
| Leather-strap model, reference R33930355; Fratello, 2019 | Black-to-maroon dial; embossed black leather strap; 36.5 mm diameter, 40.6 mm lug-to-lug, 10.8 mm thickness, and 19 mm lug width | €1,710, reported as the original price |
| Bracelet variant; Hodinkee, 2020 | Different dial; beads-of-rice bracelet; 37 mm by 10.8 mm case | $1,800, reported as the launch price for that bracelet variant |
These are historical launch prices reported for specific versions and dates, not current asking prices, resale valuations, or evidence of present availability. Fratello’s reviewer praised the dial and described the watch as comfortable, while criticizing the transition between brushed and polished case surfaces and finding the strap too long for him. Hodinkee’s reviewer praised the bracelet’s proportions and comfort, describing it as supple with a sturdy clasp. Those impressions concern the reviewers’ own examples and, in Hodinkee’s case, the bracelet variant.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What to check before buying a pre-owned example
- Confirm the exact reference, dial, and supplied strap or bracelet; anniversary variants differ.
- Check movement operation and request service records, returns terms, and authenticity documentation from the seller.
- Do not treat Rado’s serial-number manual lookup as authentication. The manual lookup can identify a movement calibre, but Rado says it does not provide authenticity information.
- Inspect the dated, completed warranty documents and confirm any remaining coverage with Rado or an authorized service center. Rado’s current warranty policy says purchases made from 1 November 2023 receive a five-year international warranty; that policy does not establish remaining coverage for a watch released in 2019.
For the R33930355, Fratello’s listed 19 mm lug width may help when considering another strap, but it does not confirm that a generic strap will fit. End shape, buckle compatibility, and availability of official Rado replacement parts are not established here.
