Hands-On Review: RZE Fortitude GMT Nighthawk

The RZE Fortitude GMT Nighthawk pairs a black-and-orange dial with titanium construction and traveler-style GMT setting, but its movement caliber needs confirmation and RZE currently lists it as sold out.

The RZE Fortitude GMT Nighthawk is the black-dial version of RZE’s titanium Fortitude GMT: a 41 mm travel watch with a 24-hour scale and orange GMT-hand and date accents. It has a useful travel-watch feature set on paper, but there is an important caveat: RZE’s current page names a different movement caliber from two independent reviews. As of October 8, 2026, RZE lists the model with a $699 starting price and marks it sold out, so that price is not a current offer to buy.

What makes the Nighthawk distinct?

RZE’s archive identifies Nighthawk as a Fortitude GMT variant. Its defining look is a textured black dial, a 24-hour scale, and orange accents on the GMT hand and date, according to WatchTime’s Martin Green. Mainspring Watch Magazine also identifies Nighthawk as the black-dial option. RZE’s collection currently surfaces Nighthawk, Crimson Red, and TurboTeal; Mainspring additionally lists Workbench among the family’s color variants.

The colorway is functional as well as distinctive: the orange GMT-hand accent helps separate the second time-zone indication from the main hour and minute hands. That is a design observation, not a claim that the dial is easier to read in every lighting condition.

Which movement is inside—and does the GMT hand work independently?

The caliber is not settled by the available sources. RZE’s current Assembled for Adventure page says the Fortitude GMT uses a Miyota 9015. WatchTime’s 2024 review and Mainspring’s Nighthawk review identify a Miyota 9075. The sources do not establish whether this reflects a revision, a difference in model description, or an error; confirm the caliber for the specific watch before purchase.

  • ALL-DAY WATER DEFENSE – Water Resistant up to 100m (330ft): suitable for bathing, swimming or snorkeling, but is not resistant enough to withstand scuba diving; 10 ATM, ideal for those who rotate watches

Both independent reviews describe the Fortitude GMT as a flyer-style GMT: the local hour hand can be adjusted in one-hour increments, allowing a traveler to change local time without resetting the other time-zone indication. This setting behavior is particularly useful when crossing time zones. Because the caliber conflict remains unresolved, check the setting instructions for the exact revision rather than assuming every Fortitude GMT has identical controls.

Dimensions, construction, and everyday specifications

The sources agree on a 41 mm diameter and 12 mm thickness. Mainspring reports 47 mm lug-to-lug and 20 mm lug width, while WatchTime gives a bracelet weight of 120 g. Mainspring lists 100 m water resistance and a 42-hour power reserve. These are published source specifications, not measurements independently taken for this article.

RZE describes the case and bracelet as titanium and says its proprietary UltraHEX coating is intended to raise surface hardness up to 1200 Hv. That is the brand’s stated coating claim, not an independent hardness test of this particular watch. Mainspring also reports a sapphire crystal with inner anti-reflective coating and BGW9 lume.

How does it wear, according to reviewers?

WatchTime’s Martin Green reported a 120 g bracelet weight and described the titanium bracelet as comfortable. He also noted a quick-release bracelet system and clasp micro-adjustment. His review says: “While testing this watch extensively with normal daily wear, it still looks like new and also seems to be less prone to discoloration and fingerprints, as titanium sometimes tends to do.” That is Green’s observation from his November 6, 2024 review, not a new wear test for this article.

Timex Men's Waterbury Traditional GMT 39mm Watch - Stainless Steel Bracelet Black Dial Stainless Steel Case
  • Quartz GMT Movement - When used in conjunction with the black and blue rotating bezel, the two-blue and white triangle GMT hand can be used to track a second time zone.
  • Stainless-steel - The stainless-steel case and bracelet are resistant to corrosion, rust, and daily wear and tear.
  • Date Window - Easily track the date in a dedicated window beside 3 o'clock.
  • Enhanced Visibility - Luminant hands ensure readability in low-light conditions.

The 41 mm diameter gives a useful first impression, but wrist fit depends on more than diameter. For a smaller wrist, the reported 47 mm lug-to-lug measurement and how the bracelet articulates around the wrist may matter more than the case-width number alone. If possible, try the watch on or compare those measurements with a watch that already fits well.

What to check before considering one

  • Confirm the movement revision. Ask the seller or RZE whether the exact Nighthawk is fitted with the Miyota 9015 or 9075, and verify the local-hour setting method for that reference.
  • Assess wrist fit. Compare the reported 47 mm lug-to-lug length and 20 mm lug width with your preferences; case diameter alone does not determine how a watch sits.
  • Check the bracelet and adjustment. WatchTime reports quick release and clasp micro-adjustment; confirm those details on the specific revision and ensure the bracelet can be sized for you.
  • Match the specifications to your use. Mainspring reports 100 m water resistance, while its review describes BGW9 lume. Neither spec alone establishes suitability for every activity or guarantees legibility in every condition.
  • Verify availability and terms. RZE currently marks the Nighthawk sold out on its collection page. Availability, price, shipping, and return terms can vary by region and change over time.

Price and availability

RZE’s Fortitude collection page showed a $699 starting price and marked the Nighthawk sold out when checked on October 8, 2026. Treat that as a dated catalog listing, not proof of an in-stock offer or a confirmed transaction price. The page does not establish when the model will return.

Timex Men's Q GMT 38mm Watch - Black Dial Stainless Steel Case & Strap
  • 38mm stainless steel case
  • Day date window on dial
  • Acrylic lens
  • Stainless steel attachment
  • Water resistant to 50m (165 ft): In general, suitable for short periods of recreational swimming, but not diving or snorkeling

RZE’s brand page describes free shipping and 14-day no-questions-asked returns, but regional terms may differ; review the current terms for your location before ordering. No current third-party listing or seller status is established here.

Verdict

The Fortitude GMT Nighthawk’s appeal is its black-and-orange dial, titanium construction, and a GMT setting approach that the independent reviewers describe as traveler-friendly. Its reported dimensions and bracelet features make it worth considering if you want a relatively compact-feeling 41 mm GMT, though the 47 mm lug-to-lug figure deserves attention on smaller wrists. The unresolved 9015-versus-9075 movement discrepancy and the current sold-out listing are the two key reasons to verify the exact watch before treating it as a purchase option.
