The Roger Dubuis Excalibur Double Tourbillon Cobalt, reference RDDBEX1109, pairs a 45 mm cobalt-chrome case with the manually wound, openworked RD108 movement. Its defining feature is not simply that it has two tourbillons: the cages are linked by a differential, while the skeletonized architecture leaves much of the movement on display. Roger Dubuis specifies a 28-piece edition.
A cobalt-chrome case with a distinctive finish
Roger Dubuis specifies the 45 mm case as cobalt CarTech Micro-Melt BioDur CCM, with a sapphire crystal, open case back and water resistance of 10 bar (100 m). The blue CVD-coated double-surface flange is satin-brushed and carries a transferred minute track and text. The supplied strap is blue calf leather; both it and the titanium-covered triple-folding buckle can be changed using the brand’s Quick Release System. Roger Dubuis’s product page calls the material highly resistant to scratches and corrosion, and non-magnetic. Those are manufacturer claims; the published information does not include independent material testing.
Monochrome Watches describes the case as predominantly brushed, with polished bevels. That contrast gives the case definition without competing with the movement’s exposed geometry.
How the RD108 double flying tourbillon works
The manually wound RD108 is a skeletonized movement displaying hours and minutes. Its two flying tourbillons are connected by a differential; Roger Dubuis says the differential connects directly to the second wheel of the gear train. Rather than treating the two cages as isolated visual elements, this arrangement links them through the movement’s gearing.

Reading the time against an openworked dial
Monochrome reports that the time is indicated by central, straight-brushed white-gold hands and a blue hour-and-minute ring around the perimeter. The hour markers and the hands’ tips have Super-LumiNova inserts. Its reviewer notes that openworked watches can be difficult to read, but considers the bold indications and contrast helpful on this model. That is an editorial observation, not a measured legibility test.

Roger Dubuis states that the model is limited to 28 pieces and describes 17 specific hand-finishes. These figures describe the brand’s published edition and finishing claims; they are not independent counts. Together, the unusual case material, paired tourbillons and extensive finishing make this a highly specialized expression of the Excalibur line rather than a conventional everyday dress watch.
