The Paulin Modul D Manual pairs a compact 35mm case with a hand-wound ETA 7001 and the Glasgow brand’s vivid, graphic design language. Paulin’s current listing specifies a sapphire box crystal, 5 ATM water resistance and a £990 price; an older 2024 hands-on report described a different crystal, so the distinction matters.
What makes the Modul D Manual distinctive?
Paulin is a Glasgow watchmaker, and the Modul collection takes its name from the watch’s modular case construction. The Manual brings that idea together with a dual-finished tonneau-shaped case and a dial marked by playful typography and color accents. Paulin describes the dial as housed in “the distinctive dual-finished tonneau-shaped Modul case.”
Monochrome’s November 2024 hands-on story reads the design through contemporary art and industrial design, with Art Deco, Bauhaus and De Stijl among its reference points. Those are aesthetic interpretations rather than technical properties, but they help explain why the watch feels more graphic and deliberately unusual than a conventional round dress watch.

The dimensions provide a useful starting point for judging scale: the case is 35mm across and 40mm from lug to lug, with a slim 8.2mm profile including the crystal. Those numbers cannot guarantee how it will sit on every wrist; wrist shape and personal preference affect fit.
Sapphire now, Hesalite in the 2024 report
Crystal descriptions differ by source and date. Monochrome’s Brice Goulard reported a Hesalite box-shaped crystal in his hands-on article published 26 November 2024. Paulin’s current product listing instead specifies a premium machined sapphire box crystal. For the present-day specification, the manufacturer’s current page is the relevant reference; the Hesalite description belongs to that earlier report and should not be treated as the current listing.

Hand-wound movement and related Modul D models
The Manual uses the ETA 7001 hand-wound movement. Buyers who prefer another movement type can compare it with Paulin’s Quartz and Automatic variants. The table uses the current model listings accessed 8 October 2026; prices and availability may change.

The Manual’s hand-wound format is the defining mechanical choice in this trio. The Quartz keeps the 35mm diameter at a lower listed price, while the Automatic pairs its different movement with a larger 39mm case. These are concrete differences, not a ranking of which model is best: the choice depends on movement preference, size and budget.

Straps, casebacks and practical considerations
Paulin lists several strap and bracelet options, including stainless-steel mesh, gunmetal PVD mesh, suede, cordovan and fabric variants. The 18mm strap width is useful when considering alternatives, but check the particular strap’s attachment and compatibility before ordering. The listing also offers open and closed caseback options.
The manufacturer lists 5 ATM water resistance. That rating is a product specification, not a guarantee for any particular water activity. Paulin also lists a 24-month warranty. International orders may incur customs charges and taxes based on destination, so buyers should check the applicable terms for their country.
Price and buying context
Paulin lists the Modul D Manual at £990 on its current product page. Monochrome’s November 2024 article gave a UK price of £990 including VAT and an export price of £825 at that time; the export figure is dated reporting, not a current international quote. Check Paulin’s listing for the live price, available configurations and shipping terms before purchase.
