What the Rec Spec is—and what its MACV-SOG connection means
Praesidus expands “Rec Spec” as “Reconnaissance Spec.” The company says the project began after a conversation with John “Tilt” Stryker Meyer, a former MACV-SOG member, and recounts that SOG personnel bought local Seiko watches in Vietnamese markets outside standard military supply channels. That is Praesidus’s account of the inspiration; the material available here does not independently establish the watches’ history or show that the Rec Spec was issued to service members.
That distinction matters: the Rec Spec is best understood as a contemporary, brand-produced homage with a specific historical reference, not as an original military watch or a faithful reissue whose service provenance has been demonstrated.
Khaki Brown: the listed steel configuration
Praesidus’s Khaki Brown product listing specifies a 38 mm case, an integrated crown at four o’clock, and a TMI NH36 automatic movement with day-date and hacking seconds. It lists a sand distressed leather strap and a 39-hour power reserve. The collection page describes the steel Rec Spec family as having a K1 mineral crystal with anti-reflective coating, Super-LumiNova on the hands and indexes, and a stated 5 ATM water-resistance rating.

Why the power-reserve figure varies
Praesidus’s collection page gives a 40-hour reserve, while its Khaki Brown and Ti Gray product listings each give 39 hours. The most precise way to describe the individual listed variants is therefore 39 hours, while noting that the collection-level specification differs. The figures are manufacturer listing specifications, not an independently measured running-time result.

What to check before choosing or ordering
- Confirm the exact version. Steel and Grade 2 titanium are distinct configurations; do not assume the titanium model shares every steel-model material or dial detail.
- Check the included strap on that listing. Praesidus lists several strap styles across the collection, and the reviewed examples do not establish a universal strap configuration.
- Verify current price and stock. The Khaki Brown listing was sold out at $295 when reviewed, and the OG Sunray retailer listing was unavailable. Those observations can change.
- Ask about replacement-strap fit before buying accessories. The available specifications do not establish lug width or compatibility for every variant.
