The best choice depends less on size than on whether you want solar convenience, the sharpest case design, or the Monster’s bold bezel and calendar display.
The Seiko Prospex Black Series 2021 is not one black dive watch offered in three sizes. It is a trio of very different case designs united by a night-diving theme: the solar-powered Tuna-style SNE577P/SNE577P1, the angular automatic Samurai-style SRPH11K/SRPH11K1, and the broad-bezel automatic Monster-style SRPH13K/SRPH13K1.
The choice is therefore straightforward. Choose the SNE577P for solar convenience and a surprisingly compact lug-to-lug span despite its width. Choose the SRPH11K for the sharpest, most aggressive case. Choose the SRPH13K for Monster styling, day-date functionality, and the smallest nominal diameter. All three are limited-edition, 200-metre divers with black-coated cases, black silicon straps, and orange-accented night-diving legibility.
This assessment draws on Time+Tide’s hands-on coverage published May 10, 2021, together with Seiko’s official specifications. The quoted prices are historical launch prices, not current market prices.

What makes the Black Series different?
Seiko designed the 2021 Black Series around night diving. The largely black treatment represents the darkness below the surface, while orange details evoke the artificial light used by a diver. Seiko also used specially coloured LumiBrite on the hands and markers, giving the watches a more deliberate visual identity than simply applying a black finish to an existing model.
That finish is central to the appeal, but it deserves a practical qualification. A coating can make scratches or chips more visually obvious because contrasting steel may show through. The cases should not be described as scratch-proof, and the available research does not establish comparative coating durability through laboratory or long-term testing.
Functionally, the three watches share the essentials expected from Seiko’s Prospex diver format: a screw-down crown, a unidirectional rotating bezel, black silicon rubber straps, and a stated 200-metre water-resistance rating. The crystals are Hardlex rather than sapphire according to the hands-on specifications.

SNE577P: the solar Tuna
The SNE577P is the most technically convenient watch in the trio and the only one powered by light. Its 46.7 mm diameter sounds enormous, but that number does not tell the whole wearability story. The rounded Tuna case has very short lugs, producing an across-the-wrist measurement of approximately 45.8 mm. It is still a broad watch, but the compact lug-to-lug span prevents it from extending as far beyond the wrist as its diameter might suggest.
The heavily knurled bezel is one of the model’s practical strengths. Its pronounced grip should be useful when manipulating the bezel with wet hands or gloves, although no independent underwater-use test was part of the research. The rounded case and black treatment give the SNE577P a more self-contained, instrument-like appearance than the angular automatic models.
Movement and display
Seiko’s V157 solar movement is specified with approximately 10 months of power reserve when fully charged and stated accuracy of approximately ±15 seconds per month. That makes it the obvious choice for anyone who would rather pick up a watch and wear it than reset an automatic that has stopped.

- STAINLESS STEEL CASE built to endure with style, making this watch your perfect daily companion
- AUTOMATIC MOVEMENT for seamless precision in every tick of this watch
- SCRATCH-RESISTANT CRYSTAL to maintain a pristine look even with daily wear and tear on your watch
- LUMINESCENT HANDS for effortless readability in low-light conditions, ensuring you never miss a moment with this watch
- WATER RESISTANT DESIGN ensuring your watch is ready for any adventure, rain or shine
The date sits at approximately 4:30. This placement will not appeal to everyone aesthetically, but the black date disc blends more discreetly into the dial than the white-on-black date displays used by the mechanical models. The trade-off is the Hardlex crystal: it is less scratch-resistant in principle than sapphire, and this model’s broad case may receive more incidental contact simply because of its size.
Choose the SNE577P if: solar convenience, the Tuna case, a grippy bezel, and a relatively compact lug-to-lug fit matter more to you than having the smallest-looking watch. Its main compromises are width, the unusual date position, and Hardlex rather than sapphire.

The SRPH11K has the most overtly aggressive geometry of the three. Its 43.8 mm case is defined by sharp facets and angular transitions, making it look more purposeful and technical than the rounded Tuna. The 48.4 mm lug-to-lug measurement is actually the shortest of the two automatic models, which helps it sit more manageably than its diameter and 13.4 mm thickness might suggest.
This is the Black Series model for readers who want the strongest tool-watch presence. The case is visually busy in a deliberate way, and the black coating amplifies the hard-edged silhouette. The supplied black silicon strap, with horizontal channels on its upper surface, supports the dive-watch character while keeping the monochrome appearance intact.
4R35 automatic performance
The SRPH11K uses Seiko’s 4R35 automatic movement, with manual winding, 23 jewels, and approximately 41 hours of power reserve. Its date display is positioned at 3 o’clock. The movement’s cited regulation range is approximately +45/-35 seconds per day. That is a stated specification range, not a timing result for this particular watch, and it is not chronometer-grade accuracy. Individual examples and real-world wearer reports can perform better than the stated extremes.
The automatic engine gives the watch more traditional mechanical appeal than the SNE577P, but it also introduces the usual ownership trade-off: after sitting unused for roughly two days, it will need winding and resetting. The white-on-black date treatment is easier to read than the Tuna’s integrated black date disc, but it is less visually discreet.

- WATER RESISTANT DESIGN ensuring your watch is ready for any adventure, rain or shine
Choose the SRPH11K if: the sharpest case design and mechanical watch experience are your priorities. Do not choose it expecting a thin watch or quartz-like precision; at 13.4 mm, it has substantial height, and the 4R35 is designed as a robust general-purpose automatic rather than a chronometer.
SRPH13K: the automatic Monster
The SRPH13K has the smallest diameter here at approximately 42.4 mm, but it should not automatically be considered the smallest-wearing watch. Its 49.4 mm lug-to-lug measurement is the longest of the trio, and its bold, sloping bezel makes the watch appear larger than the case diameter suggests. The sloped lugs do help the supplied rubber strap conform around the wrist.
Its identity is unmistakably Monster. The bezel has a broader, more dominant presence than those on the Tuna and Samurai, giving the dial a framed, almost architectural appearance. The result is a watch that is smaller on paper but not particularly restrained visually.
4R36 and day-date functionality
The SRPH13K uses the 4R36 automatic movement, which adds manual winding and approximately 41 hours of power reserve. Its key functional distinction is the day-date display at 3 o’clock. The 4R36 shares the cited approximate +45/-35 seconds-per-day regulation range of the 4R35; again, that is a movement specification range rather than an independent test of the reviewed watch.

Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →The day display makes the Monster the most practical choice for readers who use their watch as a daily calendar, while the white-on-black date treatment is more conspicuous than the Tuna’s black date disc. The price of that functionality is the same mechanical upkeep and relatively thick 13.4 mm profile as the Samurai.
Choose the SRPH13K if: you prefer the Monster’s broad bezel, want day-date functionality, and like the idea of the smallest nominal diameter without expecting a small or delicate watch.

Which one wears smallest?
Diameter alone produces the wrong answer. The SNE577P is the widest at 46.7 mm, yet its approximately 45.8 mm lug-to-lug span is the shortest of the three. The SRPH13K measures just 42.4 mm across, but its 49.4 mm lug-to-lug measurement is the longest. The SRPH11K sits between them at 43.8 mm in diameter and 48.4 mm lug-to-lug.
In practical terms:
- SNE577P: broadest case, but short lugs and a rounded profile.
- SRPH11K: smaller diameter than the Tuna and the shortest lug-to-lug span among the two automatics.
- SRPH13K: smallest diameter, but longest lug-to-lug span and the visually largest bezel.
Wrist shape matters as much as wrist circumference. A flat wrist may better accommodate the broad Tuna, while a narrow wrist can be more affected by the Monster’s longer span than by its nominal diameter. None of the three should be called small or thin.

The 200-metre rating and screw-down crowns support the watches’ diver positioning, but they should not be treated as evidence of an independent water-resistance test in this review. Before diving, a watch should be inspected and pressure-tested by a qualified service provider, particularly if the crown, crystal, case, or seals have been disturbed.

Time+Tide listed the 2021 launch prices as AUD 775 for the SNE577P, AUD 850 for the SRPH11K, and AUD 825 for the SRPH13K. These figures are historical Australian prices from the launch period. They are not current US prices and should not be used as a guide to today’s resale market.
All three were limited-edition models, so new-stock availability, regional pricing, seller quality, and secondary-market premiums can change substantially. Seiko’s current US Prospex lineup includes other Black Series references, such as SRPK43 and SLA061, but that does not establish that the 2021 SNE577P, SRPH11K, and SRPH13K remain broadly available as new watches.
If you are comparing listings, verify the complete reference suffix, condition, warranty documentation, seller reputation, and whether the listing is for the exact model rather than a later or similarly named Black Series watch. Compare current listings for the Seiko Prospex Black Series only after confirming the reference and seller; limited-edition inventory is not guaranteed.

Verdict: three personalities, one stealth theme
The Black Series works because Seiko did more than apply a dark colour to three interchangeable divers. The Tuna, Samurai, and Monster retain their distinct case personalities, and the night-diving palette gives them a common purpose.
- Best for convenience: SNE577P. Its V157 solar movement removes most of the resetting and winding routine, while its short lugs moderate the impact of the very wide case.
- Best for aggressive design: SRPH11K. The faceted Samurai case delivers the sharpest tool-watch presence and the shortest lug-to-lug span among the automatic models.
- Best for calendar utility: SRPH13K. The Monster’s day-date display and smaller nominal diameter are compelling, but its long lug-to-lug measurement and dominant bezel keep it from being a genuinely small watch.
For most buyers, the movement decision comes first: solar convenience versus mechanical character. Once that is settled, the case family makes the answer clear. These are not three sizes of the same watch; they are three ways to wear Seiko’s stealth-diver idea.

How accurate are the Seiko Black Series watches?
The SNE577P uses a V157 solar movement with approximately 10 months of power reserve when fully charged and stated accuracy of about ±15 seconds per month. The SRPH11K and SRPH13K use automatic movements with approximately 41 hours of reserve and a cited regulation range of about +45/-35 seconds per day.
Are the 2021 Seiko Prospex Black Series watches still available?
The trio were limited-edition 2021 models, so availability and pricing vary by region and seller. Time+Tide’s historical launch prices were AUD 775 for the SNE577P, AUD 850 for the SRPH11K, and AUD 825 for the SRPH13K; these should not be treated as current US prices.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: Buy the SNE577P for solar convenience, the SRPH11K for the most angular Samurai case, or the SRPH13K for Monster styling and day-date functionality. Compare lug-to-lug measurements—not diameter alone—and treat the 2021 launch prices as historical rather than current.
