The TUUL Filthy 13 is a modern field watch inspired by the British Ministry of Defence’s 1945 “Dirty Dozen” watches—not an original wartime model. It combines a 38 mm case, small seconds, and a Sellita automatic movement, with steel and bronze versions. In the review published July 13, 2024, Fratello’s Balazs Ferenczi reported that its compact proportions wore comfortably; the review-era prices were US$899.99 for steel and US$1,099.99 for bronze.
What the Filthy 13 is—and what it is not
The Dirty Dozen were twelve watches made by Swiss brands in 1945 for the British Ministry of Defence. The makers included Longines, Buren, Grana, IWC, Omega, and Jaeger-LeCoultre. TUUL presents the Filthy 13 as a contemporary interpretation of that military-watch concept, not a reproduction or one of the original watches. Fratello’s 2024 review describes the design, while TUUL’s official collection page gives the brand’s own framing.
TUUL says the “Dirty Dozen” nickname came later and connects “Filthy 13” to a thirteen-person U.S. military unit associated with Private Jake McNiece. That is the manufacturer’s account; the available material does not independently establish every detail of the story.
How the watch is built
The Filthy 13 is a time-only watch: hours and minutes on the main dial, with seconds on a small subdial. Its bead-blasted case is offered in 316L stainless steel or CuSn8 bronze. The review lists matte black dials for both materials, a white dial for steel, and a green dial for bronze. Arabic numerals and cream-colored Super-LumiNova markers complete the dial.

These are the specifications reported in Fratello’s review. The mention of a sapphire crystal alone does not establish whether it has anti-reflective coating.
Wearability and straps
Reviewer Balazs Ferenczi handled prototypes in Brooklyn and later saw the watch again in Geneva; he also reports spending time with steel and bronze versions. He found the 38 mm case and 45.9 mm lug-to-lug length wearable on different wrist sizes and said it sat comfortably beneath long sleeves. Those are his impressions, not a controlled fit test.

Fratello compares the Filthy 13’s 11.25 mm thickness with the 8.5 mm manual-wind Hamilton Khaki Field Mechanic. The reviewer notes that a NATO strap can make the Filthy 13 feel thicker on the wrist and suggests a two-piece strap as an alternative. The watch was shown with black, khaki, or army-green nylon NATO straps and has drilled lugs to make strap changes easier.
The review does not state the lug width. Confirm the width and strap fit before buying a replacement; drilled lugs make removal easier but do not determine which strap will fit.

Who the Filthy 13 makes sense for
- Consider it if you want a contemporary field-watch design with a small-seconds layout, a 38 mm case, and the choice of steel or bronze.
- Think carefully if your preference is for a thinner watch, since the reported case thickness is 11.25 mm and a NATO strap may add to its wrist presence.
- Choose with care if strap swapping is central to your plans: the watch has drilled lugs, but the reviewed source does not give their width.
- Look elsewhere if you specifically want an original 1945 military watch. The Filthy 13 is a modern tribute, not a vintage Dirty Dozen watch.
For comparisons with other field watches, use the same measures across candidates: diameter and lug-to-lug fit, thickness, case material, movement and stated reserve, water resistance, dial layout, verified strap compatibility, and price. Fratello mentions the Hamilton Khaki Field Mechanic as a thickness reference, but the available sources do not establish a current, comprehensive competitor ranking or show that one model is superior.
