The Raven Black version reviewed by Fratello Watches in 2023 pairs a textured black dial and small seconds with a Miyota automatic movement, sapphire crystal and 100 m water resistance.
What the Vario 1945 D12 is
The D12 is a contemporary interpretation of the Dirty Dozen field-watch design, not a claim to be an original military-issued watch. Its display is deliberately simple: hours and minutes from the central hands, with small seconds at six o’clock. No date is listed for the Raven Black configuration reviewed by Fratello.

That straightforward layout gives the watch the legibility associated with a field watch while the case and dial details keep it from being a strict period replica. Fratello’s reviewer called the watch “Dirty Dozen Done Right”; that is the reviewer’s assessment, rather than an objective consensus.
Dial and case details
The reviewed Raven Black has a black textured dial, white Arabic numerals and a railroad minute track. Its hands and dial markings are luminous. The brand mark is restrained, leaving the numerals and track as the main visual elements.

Fratello’s reviewer singled out the short, downturned lugs, polished bezel and chamfers, brushed case surfaces, and cutout around the crown as details that give the watch a quirkier character than a plain military-style case. Those are the author’s observations, not measured findings about comfort.
Size and wrist fit
The published dimensions for the reviewed watch are 37 mm across, 45 mm lug-to-lug and 10.5 mm thick, with an 18 mm lug spacing. The compact diameter and 45 mm span provide more useful fit information than simply calling the watch small. Fratello’s reviewer described the lugs as short and downturned and reported wearing it in multiple situations; individual fit will still depend on wrist shape and preference.

The lugs have drilled holes, which the reviewer notes make strap changes easier. The Raven Black was shown on an 18 mm black Cordura strap. For a replacement, 18 mm is the documented width to search for; verify the specific strap’s attachment, buckle, length and fit before buying.

The Raven Black reviewed by Fratello uses a Miyota 82S5 automatic movement. It can also be wound by hand, and its seconds hand stops when the crown is pulled for setting (hacking seconds). The published movement specifications are 21 jewels, 21,600 vibrations per hour (3 Hz) and a 40-hour power reserve.
