Its 2026 blue version adds a sapphire-blue dial and matching bezel. The hands-on impression available for that update comes from T3 writer Sam Cross, who viewed it at Watches and Wonders; it is an event viewing, not an extended wear or performance test.
What the Black Bay 54 is
The Black Bay 54 is Tudor’s compact steel dive watch, offered in black and, for 2026, a blue dial-and-bezel configuration. Tudor presents the model as its closest modern Black Bay interpretation of its first dive watch, reference 7922. That is the manufacturer’s account of the design lineage, rather than an independent ranking of the Black Bay range.
The proportions and details that support that vintage reference include the 37 mm case, an ungraduated bezel, a lollipop seconds hand and a small crown. The contemporary watch also uses Tudor’s MT5400 movement and T-fit clasp, so the historical cues sit alongside modern specifications and adjustment hardware.
Case, bezel and water resistance
- Case: 37 mm stainless steel, with polished and satin finishes; 11.2 mm thick and 20 mm between the lugs.
- Crystal: Domed sapphire.
- Bezel: Unidirectional, 60-minute steel bezel with an aluminium insert and no minute graduations. Tudor says increased resistance around the zero marker helps reduce inadvertent movement.
- Water resistance: Tudor states 200 m (660 ft) for the US M79000N-0002 product configuration.
The 200 m figure is a manufacturer specification, not an assessment of any particular watch’s present condition or of whether a specific dive setup is suitable. Tudor says the crown screws down to ensure water resistance and should be fully tightened after it has been manipulated. The one-way bezel is intended to measure dive time.

Movement and day-to-day specifications
The Black Bay 54 uses Tudor Manufacture Calibre MT5400, a self-winding mechanical movement with a bidirectional rotor system and COSC certification. Tudor gives its power reserve as approximately 70 hours, which it calls “weekend-proof”: in the maker’s example, the wearer can take the watch off Friday evening and put it back on Monday morning without winding it.
Tudor states that the movement in the fully assembled watch operates within a tolerance of 6 seconds per day (-2/+4). That is the manufacturer’s stated tolerance, not an accuracy result from independent testing of a sample watch. Tudor also lists a five-year transferable guarantee and says registration or periodic maintenance checks are not required for that guarantee.

Black or blue, rubber or bracelet?
The US reference M79000N-0002 is listed with a black dial, black rubber strap and T-fit clasp. Tudor’s Black Bay 54 family page also shows a steel-bracelet choice and the new blue dial-and-bezel version. The bracelet uses a T-fit clasp with rapid length adjustment; Tudor says its rubber strap comes in three sizes and also uses T-fit.
| Choice | What is established |
|---|---|
| Black on rubber | US reference M79000N-0002; black dial, black rubber strap and T-fit clasp. |
| Steel bracelet | Available in the Black Bay 54 family; bracelet has a T-fit clasp with rapid length adjustment. |
| Blue | 2026 family addition with sapphire-blue, sunray-brushed dial and matching bezel. A separate US price was not established on the cited family page. |
At Watches and Wonders, T3’s Sam Cross wrote that the blue looked “much more vibrant than other blue Tudor models, like the Pelagos.” He said the color looked especially good in the low light of Tudor’s viewing booth and noted that images he had seen in other lighting made it look brighter. This is his visual impression from the event, not a long-term wear review.

- Self-winding mechanical movement with 70 hour power reserve
Is the Black Bay 54 too small?
Whether 37 mm feels too small is personal; case diameter alone cannot predict how a watch will sit on a particular wrist. The Black Bay 54’s 11.2 mm thickness and the distinction between rubber and bracelet configurations also matter to the overall wearing impression. If possible, try the specific configuration on your wrist, paying attention to how the case spans it and how the strap or bracelet sits. Cross’s favorable reaction to the proportions was based on viewing the watch at the event, not a reported extended wear test.
